Deadpool’s R-Rated Injury Proves How Deadly Captain America’s Shield Actually Is

Deadpool’s R-Rated Injury Proves How Deadly Captain America’s Shield Actually Is

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Uncanny Avengers #4 Captain America’s shield has always been seen as more of a symbol than an actual weapon, as those who wield it also wield the indomitable spirit of unity, righteousness, and hope – though Deadpool might beg to differ. The truth is, even if the shield is an ageless symbol of heroism, it’s also incredibly deadly. Sure, it can block basically any attack, but it can also deliver some devastating blows, and Deadpool’s most recent R-rated injury proves that.

Wade Wilson is no stranger to horrific injuries during his many escapades as the infamous antihero Deadpool. From chewing off his own arm to even having an anvil fall on and crush his skull, Deadpool has experienced some brutal injuries. But, thanks to his healing factor, he doesn’t ever really have to worry about them. Yeah, his entrails might be littering the pavement, or his brain matter is splattered all over a nearby wall – it doesn’t matter. After some time has passed, Deadpool will be made whole again, and the same is true for his most recent injury.

However, just because Deadpool isn’t greatly impacted by these injuries in any kind of lasting way, doesn’t mean they’re not often incredibly hard to look at. In fact, Deadpool is almost like a living example of how deadly any given weapon can be based on how gruesome his injuries are when said weapon is used against him. And now, Captain America’s shield can be added to that list, officially answering the question of ‘how deadly is it?’ with a single word: extremely.

Captain America’s Shield Cut Deadpool In Half With A Single Throw

Deadpool’s R-Rated Injury Proves How Deadly Captain America’s Shield Actually Is

In Uncanny Avengers #4 by Gerry Duggan and Javier Garrón, Captain America and his team of mutant-allied Avengers (which includes Deadpool) are working to dismantle Orchis after the anti-mutant organization’s attack on all mutantkind at the most recent Hellfire Gala. Their mission in this issue is to find and take down Captain Krakoa, who is pretending to be a leader of mutant revolutionary cells, but is actually a pawn used by Orchis to continue making the mutants look bad.

When the Uncanny Avengers finally face Captain Krakoa, the mutant impostor snatches Captain America’s shield from the air and uses it as a weapon against the heroes. He incapacitates Black Widow and Monet with a single toss before cutting Deadpool in half with a deliberate throw.

Captain America’s Shield Isn’t Always This Deadly For 1 Key Reason

Captain America looking especially patriotic.

Seeing how this shield cut Deadpool in half with a single throw may leave some fans wondering about how morally acceptable it is for Captain America to be running around with this thing all the time. Rogers often goes up against regular humans during his superhero escapades. Granted, they’re usually Hydra agents or the newfound enemies of Orchis, but they’re still humans with no superpowers fighting for their own twisted version of justice. Plus, Captain America has super strength, which only elevates the shield’s deadliness. While it may seem irresponsible for someone as strong as Captain America to charge into battle with this weapon, the truth is, he’s perhaps the only reason it hasn’t been retired for good. Captain America has masterful body control, and can hold back just enough to have his shield act as a relatively mild form of offensive attack, rather than this brutal weapon fans saw cut Deadpool in half with ease.

If Captain America didn’t hold back with his shield, every book he appeared in would be designated ‘Mature’, and every movie he appeared in would be rated R. If anything, the fact that Cap’s shield is so deadly, yet most people wouldn’t really consider it to be, is a testament to the level of heroism Captain America represents, and how meaningful the symbolism behind his shield truly is. However, the cold hard facts cannot be ignored, and Deadpool’s recent injury proves exactly just how deadly Captain America’s shield actually is.
