Deadpool’s New Ally Can’t Stop Ripping Off the Worst Batman Movie

Deadpool’s New Ally Can’t Stop Ripping Off the Worst Batman Movie

Warning! Spoilers for Deadpool #10 below!

When gathering a group of monsters to help him fight during the King in Black crossover event, Deadpool goes through a few unique and interesting candidates, one of them being a talking snowman. Before anyone can start singing, Mr. Frosty is on the team where his signature characteristic borrows from the infamous Batman and Robin, specifically Arnold Schwarzenegger’s pun-slinging performance as Mr. Freeze.

In the current Deadpool series, the famous fourth-wall-breaking mercenary’s life changed when his latest assignment ended with him becoming the King of Monsters, ruling over a monster-occupied Staten Island. While Wade’s monarchy has put him at odds with other heroes and made him a target for hunters, he found a welcome distraction when his latest love interest Elsa Bloodstone was dying from an interdimensional infection. Traveling to the source of the problems, Deadpool prevented the sinister Bone Beast’s planned invasion of his dimension and blew himself up to prevent their Queen from taking possession of his body. After a long trip home and the complete regeneration of his body, Wade returns to New York to find it has been taken over by the King in Black and his symbiote army as they quickly overcome Earth and its people.

In Deadpool #10 by Kelly Thompson and Gerardo Sandoval, Deadpool knows he can’t fight the requirements of a tie-in book so he decides to interview any available monsters in order to put together a new team to fight the symbiotes. Among those are Mr. Frosty, a smiling talking snowman whose penchant for making cold puns almost gets him disqualified from the team. Later seen in the big team montage, Deadpool ignores prophecy’s about an upcoming apocalypse to focus on the one currently happening. During a fight with one of Knull’s symbiote dragons, Mr. Frosty is the team’s first casualty, gobbled up in one bite.

Deadpool’s New Ally Can’t Stop Ripping Off the Worst Batman Movie

The 1997 movie Batman and Robin attempted to capitalize on the success of Batman Forever while also paying tribute to elements of other successful Batman properties. Although Mr. Freeze had been redeemed as a serious yet tragic villain, Schwarzenegger’s casting had the part rewritten to fit his personality, which matched the kid friendly campiness of the 1960s Batman series. Whether he was reminding people of what killed the dinosaurs or telling everyone to chill, Mr. Freeze’s cold puns were a memorable part in the infamous film that put the Batman franchise on ice for years.

Despite his puns not being as memorable or complex, Mr. Frosty’s near dismissal for his signature shtick could parallel the fans dismissal of Batman and Robin, although the puns seem to be the one of the few successful elements of the film that anyone remembers. Although he’s the only casualty, Deadpool hints that it’s possible for Mr. Frosty to make a return, suggesting that he could indeed be back again one day.
