The second Deadpool & Wolverine trailer features a sneaky nod to Deadpool’s creator, a Marvel Comics icon. Deadpool & Wolverine‘s second full-length trailer has officially been released, and it reveals many new details about the movie, from Deadpool & Wolverine‘s main villain to a few cameos by long-gone X-Men characters. Of course, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is the star of the trailer as he finally wears his classic yellow-and-blue suit and shows off his muscular arms.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s R rating allows the film to include adult-themed jokes like Blind Al’s bold suggestion at the end of the second trailer. However, not all the humor in the movie is explicit. Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine is expected to feature countless easter eggs and references, not only to other MCU characters and the source material, but also to real-world events and real-life people such as Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige and Deadpool’s creator, Rob Liefeld.

After Wolverine’s tragic backstory is alluded to, the titular anti-heroes are shown walking on a wrecked street. In the background, one of the destroyed stores in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer is a shoe repair shop called “Liefeld’s Just Feet”. This is a reference to Deadpool’s creator Rob Liefeld, whose tendency to avoid drawing his characters’ feet is infamous among comic book fans. Rob Liefeld has reacted to the trailer on X, responding with his own store name, “Liefeld Orthopedic Store.” Cleverly enough, Liefeld crops out Deadpool and Wolverine’s feet on his post.

In the early 1990s, Rob Liefeld co-created the X-Force with Fabian Nicieza, conceiving the now famous characters Deadpool, Cable, Domino, and Shatterstar — all of whom starred in Deadpool 2, though only Shatterstar will appear alongside Wade Wilson in Deadpool & Wolverine. Liefeld’s art style became a staple of the era, with his character’s ultra-muscular bodies and over-the-top costumes helping inspire many character designs in Marvel, Image, Valiant, and even DC throughout the 1990s. However, Liefeld’s penchant for unrealistic anatomies, unchanging faces, unnecessary pouches, and the absence of feet in his comics were often criticized.

Since then, Rob Liefeld’s art style has evolved, and he has added more visible feet to his artworks. Still, Deadpool & Wolverine couldn’t miss the opportunity to acknowledge Deadpool’s creator in the funniest way it could. Thanks to Deadpool’s fourth-wall-breaking abilities, these kinds of humorous references are to be expected.
