While the TVA might have chosen Deadpool due to his self-awareness and fourth-wall-breaking abilities, their decision to recruit such an unpredictable and egocentric hero is still odd, especially considering that there are countless other mutants in the X-Men universe at their disposal, including ultra-smart mutants like Beast and Omega-level mutants like Magneto.

Cable and Domino are even more logical choices for the TVA. Unlike Deadpool, Cable possesses plenty of experience and knowledge about time travel, having been the one to kick off the events of Deadpool 2 when he used his time travel device to go back in time to kill Firefist. If the TVA needs a hero from the X-Men universe to fix or protect their timeline, there’s no better choice than Nathan Summers, especially now that he has abandoned his vendetta and stayed in the present day.

Domino may not be too familiar with concepts like time travel and the multiverse, but she possesses what could be the most convenient mutant power in the X-Men universe: luck. Anything Domino sets out to do is almost guaranteed to succeed, regardless of how unlikely it may sound. If the TVA faces another challenge as difficult as fixing the Sacred Timeline’s Time Loom, Domino would have the odds in her favor from the start. Therefore, recruiting Cable and Domino would be the most logical decision if the TVA really needs to clean up branched timelines.

Domino And Cable May Have Escaped The TVA Before Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool Is More Naive Than Domino And Cable

In theory, Cable and Domino are two of the best mutants the TVA could recruit. However, they’re both more cautious and mature than Deadpool, and may have suspected that the TVA’s plans aren’t as straightforward as they sound. In Deadpool & Wolverine‘s first trailer, Matthew Macfayden’s TVA agent Paradox tells Deadpool that the TVA is giving him a chance to be “a hero among heroes”. Deadpool goes one step further and calls himself “the Messiah” and “Marvel Jesus”. Perhaps no one other than Wade Wilson is naive enough to believe the TVA doesn’t have a secret purpose behind that mission.

Cable also managed to prevent his wife and daughter from dying without having to kill Firestar or Deadpool in Deadpool 2. If the TVA recruited him to change any event in Fox’s X-Men timeline, he would likely reject the proposition. Given that the TVA recruits Deadpool by force, it’s possible that Cable fought back and escaped to another point in time, possibly taking Domino along with him. Seeing that Deadpool’s immortality and self-awareness make him the next best option, the TVA may have settled on recruiting Wade Wilson.

Similarly, Domino and Cable may have used Cable’s time-travel device to travel back and forth in time before the TVA stopped pursuing them.

If this theory is accurate, Domino and Cable could be hiding anywhere in the X-Men timeline’s past or future, where they could meet the cast of the original X-Men trilogy or the prequels. However, if Loki’s multiversal Yggdrasil altered the X-Men timelines, or if Deadpool’s actions in Deadpool & Wolverine rearrange the order of the MCU multiverse, Domino and Cable could have ended up in a branched timeline, similar to Monica Rambeau in The Marvels‘ post-credits scene, where she ended up in an X-Men universe inhabited by a Beast variant.

Domino and Cable’s absence in Deadpool & Wolverine gives the two titular mutants more time to shine as a duo. However, the MCU may not ignore Deadpool’s X-Force teammates for long. It’s precisely the same skills that make them too convenient for Deadpool & Wolverine to use that also make them excellent candidates for an eventual MCU debut in a multiversal installment like Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars. Cable’s time-traveling skills and Domino’s luck could be extremely useful in a story that deals with alternate timelines and fate.

The Multiverse Saga’s conclusion might gather characters from all Marvel movies and shows, inside and outside the MCU. This is an opportunity to bring together the most powerful and relevant characters to the Avengers’ multiversal conflict, such as magic-wielders like Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch, reality-hopping characters like Loki and America Chavez, and time travelers like Deadpool and Cable. If not to help the rest of the heroes turn the tide in their favor, Domino and Cable could use their unique skills to help the Avengers rearrange the multiverse after defeating the Council of Kangs — or whoever replaces them as Avengers: Secret Wars‘ main antagonist.
