Deadpool: Ryan Reynolds Interviews Hugh Jackman for Eddie the Eagle

Just before Hugh Jackman begins filming his likely last movie as Wolverine this April, he’s been doing the promotional circuit for Eddie the Eagle. That inspirational sports movie, which opens at the end of this month, stars Jackman as the strong-willed coach of Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards (Taron Egerton), the first skier to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping.

Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds has been working overtime promoting Deadpool, doing the talk show circuit, filming several promos, and even doing voice-over work on the trailers. Reynolds’ natural comedic charm has been a perfect fit for his wise-cracking Marvel hero character, a mercenary who undergoes an experimental treatment for cancer that leaves him essentially immortal but disfigured.

In addition to his own press, Reynolds recently decided to crash an Eddie the Eagle junket, stepping in to interview Jackman about the film. As you can see in the clip above, the questions range from “You play Eddie?” to “How much of Hugh Jackman’s immense success is raw talent, and how much is just advantageous bone structure?”

Another question took a jab at Deadpool’s fate in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with Reynolds asking “Did you guys get any notes from the studio to sew Eddie’s mouth shut…make lasers shoot from his eyes?” This has been an ongoing theme in Deadpool promotion, with Reynolds in character taking shots at Wolverine and Australians as a whole in a clip for the superhero film.

The actors’ friendly back-and-forth is entertaining for them and good publicity for their latest films. While Jackman is ready to hang up his adamantium claws with Wolverine 3, we can still hold out hope that he’d be willing to revive his X-Men persona for one more interaction with Reynolds as Deadpool on screen, however brief. For now, we can just enjoy the actors above, riffing on the craft of sex scenes and whether they’re both past their “sexiest man alive” primes.
