Deadpool Just Became Marvel’s NEW Black Panther

Deadpool Just Became Marvel’s NEW Black Panther

Marvel fans can only dream of seeing Black Panther and Deadpool fight in the movies, but their comic book battle has chosen an unlikely winner. Not only has Deadpool claimed the Black Panther suit… he’s stolen King T’Challa’s throne out from under him, as the NEW master of Wakanda’s true power.

When Marvel announced the Black Panther vs. Deadpool comic series, fans knew they were in for a one of a kind battle. On one side, the unkillable mercenary, and on the other, the Avenger least likely to tolerate Wade Wilson’s brand of insanity. And while King T’Challa may have gotten the jump on Deadpool out of the gate, the tables have seriously turned. Once Deadpool snagged a Black Panther suit made specifically for him, and steals the entire wealth of Wakanda out from under its king, fans don’t have to wonder what the Deadpool version of the Black Panther would look like… because he just became it.

Round 1: Black Panther Dismembers Deadpool

Deadpool Just Became Marvel’s NEW Black Panther

As we mentioned above, the title fight of Black Panther vs. Deadpool got off to a terrible start for Wade Wilson. Sure, fans of the Marvel movies might assume that King T’Challa would easily beat Deadpool in a head to head fight – he’s tough, but he’s no Killmonger (even with his healing abilities). But King T’Challa didn’t exactly fight fair, using weaponized medical technology to slice Deadpool’s arm clean off… and prevent his cancerous cells from growing him a new arm.

Needless to say, Deadpool was upset: he went to Wakanda requesting a sliver of vibranium to heal a friend, and wound up tossed out minus an arm. Frankly, Black Panther deserved some payback. But after a brief truce Deadpool pushed his luck, and Black Panther decided to end him as a threat in the most disgusting way possible. In short: cutting off his head, and chopping his body up into pieces. But it’s Deadpool who gets the last laugh.

Deadpool Gets His Own Black Panther Suit

After being held prisoner in King T’Challa’s Palace (body assembled, but still unable to heal back together), the constantly ticking time bomb in Deadpool’s utility belt detonates, obliterating T’Challa’s lab and freeing Wade’s body to merge back into fighting form. And after a brief chase, the Merc With a Mouth finds himself in Black Panther’s own armory – filled with weapons and necklace-based armor suits just waiting for Deadpool to slip into them. We would argue that there’s more than a little poetry to this turning of the tables. Black Panther proved he was smart enough to defeat Deadpool’s superhuman healing. Deadpool responds by proving that if he were ALSO to put on one of the hi-tech, vibranium-powered Black Panther suits made by T’Challa’s sister Shuri, the king wouldn’t be able to talk so big a game.

And as the Black Panther Suit adjusts itself to its new owner’s fighting and visual style, Deadpool disappears… so that PANTHERPOOL can be born. Fans should see the transformation for themselves, but those unafraid of SPOILERS can read on for the big reveal.

Round 2: Black Panther vs. Pantherpool

Once Deadpool dons the red ceremonial necklace (fate?) he unwittingly initiates the on-board intelligence of what turns out to be a “Prototype Black Panther Suit.” Wade had simply hoped to take the necklace for the vibranium it contains (all he needs for his mission). But before he can explain that to the digital Shuri appearing in his heads-up display, the suit begins to analyzes his DNA–presumably, T’Challa has the DNA of most of Marvel’s heroes on hand. But he’ll be re-thinking that decision in future, as the prototype suit confirms that it’s been granted to Deadpool, and the customization process begins.

For fans, that means seeing the Black Panther suit remade on Deadpool’s body to reflect his usual weaponry, as well as his signature style and color scheme. Oh, and for those who felt that Deadpool should actually be the one serving T’Challa the beating, the new suit also puts him on an even playing field with Black Panther’s own artificial enhancements. An advantage Deadpool begins to press immediately.

Deadpool Finally Beats The Black Panther

The powers bestowed upon King T’Challa are no joke, granting him enhanced strength, stamina, durability, and even healing. But as X-Men fans fans already know, that’s not all that different from what the Weapon X program gave to Deadpool. Or, what the program gave to him originally, since modern comics have simply explained that Wade Wilson possesses the peak abilities possible in a trained operative. In other words, once Deadpool gets into his own suit of Black Panther armor, the real fight can finally begin.

By this point even Black Panther fans may be happy to see Deadpool knocking some humility into T’Challa, now immune to the weapon previously used to stop Deadpool’s healing ability. And as he claims – with a hard strike to T’Challa’s face – that he now probably has the upper hand in their duel, Deadpool goes from a rival to Black Panther to full-blown usurper. He may not physically evict King T’Challa from his throne, but he steals the entire value of Wakanda right out from under him.

Deadpool Steals All of Marvel’s Vibranium

The fight between Black Panther and the newly-christened “Pantherpool” is cut short, thanks to the damage T’Challa inflicted upon Deadpool’s pocket sized teleporter (a staple gadget that has yet to make it into the movies). Taking its owner for a random hop through space, Deadpool finds himself in the heart of Wakanda’s vast vibranium mines. He only traveled to the African kingdom in search of a piece of the mystical, vibration-absorbing metal, but his efforts to remove a sample once again reacts unpredictably with Deadpool’s teleporter.

Black Panther vs. Deadpool #4 ends with T’Challa grasping just how much his mutant opponent had made off with, revealing the Great Mound – the mountain of Wakanda and all the vibranium contained within and beneath it – teleported to America, just off the highway outside of Paramus, New Jersey. The wealth that created Wakanda in the first place, now dropped in Deadpool’s backyard, with a new Black Panther to defend it. Something tells us that King T’Challa is going to be making a trip to America soon, to restore the total number of Black Panthers in the Marvel Universe to one.

Black Panther vs. Deadpool #4 is available now from Marvel Comics.
