Deadpool Defeats Thanos In Brilliant MCU Multiverse Art

Fan art for an episode of Marvel Studios’ What If…? brings Deadpool into the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame, and sees the antihero taking down the Mad Titan Thanos singlehandedly. After the multiverse was unleashed at the start of the MCU’s Phase 4, Marvel Studios developed the animated series What If…? to explore alternate realities, featuring twists on pre-established storylines from the MCU’s past. What If…? season 1 saw Peggy Carter become a super soldier instead of Steve Rogers, many of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes become zombies, and Infinity Ultron wreak havoc on the multiverse, and the What If…?’s upcoming season 2 is set to delve into more new universes.

Although details of What If…? season 2 have been scarce, many have speculated on what stories could unfold in the upcoming season. MCU fan art shared by Psychboz focuses on one What If…? episode during the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame, which saw Earth’s Mightiest Heroes take on the Mad Titan Thanos. While Thanos’ defeat came at a fatal cost for Tony Stark’s Iron Man, this art features Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool defeating Thanos before any other heroes had a chance.

Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, will officially be joining the MCU in 2024’s Deadpool 3, so it’s possible he may be included in an upcoming episode of What If…?.

What We Know About What If…? Season 2

What If…? season 1 was officially announced in April 2019, and in December of the same year, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige revealed that a second season was already in development. Marvel Studios established the Marvel Studios Animation branch to focus on animated series’ including What If…?, a Marvel Zombies spinoff, and Spider-Man: Freshman Year, though the projects are still set within the cosmos of the MCU, exploring alternate realities in the vast multiverse. What If…? season 2 is set to continue this, with nine episodes expected to be released weekly after premiering in late December 2023 as part of the MCU’s Phase 5.

Jeffrey Wright is returning in What If…? season 2 as the voice of the Watcher, the enigmatic being overseeing the series’ stories. Season 2’s premiere is expected to pick up immediately after season 1, with Captain Carter discovering Steve Rogers is still alive. The Iron Man and Gamora episode that was dropped from season 1 will be featured in What If…? season 2, and an original MCU character, Kahhori, will also be introduced along with the return of the Tesseract. What If…? season 2 will also feature the returns of Cate Blanchett as Hela and Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster and is expected to premiere around Christmas Day, 2023.
