Deadpool 3 Update Fuels Major Fox Marvel Cameo Rumors & Theories

Deadpool 3 is rumored to bring many Fox Marvel characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a new update adds fuel to those rumors. While Deadpool 3‘s cast is already very interesting, with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine leading a talented ensemble of newcomers to the franchise, stars from the past two Deadpool movies, and even Jennifer Garner’s returning Elektra, rumors of potential Fox Marvel actor returns have got fans excited. And now a Deadpool 3 update teases that excitement should be rewarded.

Speaking with Slash Film, director Shawn Levy talked about how the Fox Marvel legacy impacts Deadpool 3‘s story. Levy claims that just because Deadpool 3 is an MCU film, it doesn’t mean that “suddenly that Fox legacy doesn’t exist,” as “it shaped a lot of what we now know as the MCU.” With the Deadpool 3 director ending by evidencing the importance of the Fox Marvel legacy to his MCU movie, saying, “certainly that’s a part of our storytelling,” things are looking good for the rumored Deadpool 3 cameos. “And Deadpool and Wolverine are iconic Marvel characters; more specifically, iconic Marvel-of-the-Fox-era characters. We’re not going to pretend: ‘Oh, we snap our fingers, and suddenly that Fox legacy doesn’t exist, and it shaped a lot of what we now know as the MCU.’ Fox also shaped Ryan’s career, Hugh’s career and my career. So there’s a lot of history there, and there’s a lot of Marvel history at Fox. And certainly that’s a part of our storytelling.”

How Deadpool 3 Can Honor The Fox Marvel Legacy

The Deadpool 3 director recently gave an update on the cameo rumors, saying, “some of those rumors are true, and some of them aren’t.” Based on Levy’s words, at least a few of the Fox Marvel characters being thrown around for a role in Deadpool 3 — such as James Marsden’s Cyclops and Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey — should be showing up after years since their last appearance.

Marvel Studios is set to introduce its own take on the X-Men in the future. However, with Deadpool 3 bringing back Jackman’s Wolverine, the movie appears as the perfect place to set up a potential X-Men storyline before the MCU’s versions of the mutants come around. Deadpool 3 could potentially see Deadpool and Wolverine have the road trip that Reynolds previously revealed was his plan if Jackman ever came back, only it is through the Fox Marvel universe.

Deadpool 3 could then include looks at how the characters from the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies, both X-Men timelines, and more are doing after so many years. With the Multiverse Saga having a set finale, 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, Deadpool 3 could honor the Fox Marvel legacy by not only including a new look at beloved franchises, but making them matter to the MCU. Due to the movie’s multiverse nature, Deadpool could recruit a team of past Fox Marvel heroes to help save the multiverse from incursions in Avengers: Secret Wars, with the possible Deadpool 3 team having one last major adventure before the MCU reboots the X-Men.
