Deadpool 3 Director & Ryan Reynolds Reteaming For Fourth Time On Netflix Heist Thriller

Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy reteams with star Ryan Reynolds for a fourth time for a new Netflix heist thriller. Levy and Reynolds are currently hard at work shooting the first official MCU movie for the infamous Merc With a Mouth, with a big assist from Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The now-ended twin strikes that hit Hollywood in 2023 did cause delays for the highly-anticipated Deadpool sequel, but things are now back on track. Reynolds himself recently addressed a spate of leaked images from the set with his own fake leak, poking fun at speculation over what other characters might show up in the long-awaited movie.

Whatever happens with Deadpool 3 at the box office, the creative partnership between Levy and Reynolds will continue beyond the MCU film, as the pair are set to reteam for a new Netflix heist thriller (via Deadline). The untitled movie was acquired by the streamer after a fierce bidding war, and is being called an Ocean’s Eleven-style caper film. The movie is said to be in the early stages of development, so there will be a long wait for the finished product.

The Adam Project Proved Levy and Reynolds Are a Formidable Team (For Netflix)

Reynolds first teamed with Stranger Things EP Levy on the 2021 movie Free Guy, which was a modest hit at the box office with $331 million grossed. The pair next took their double-act to Netflix for The Adam Project, an emotionally stirring sci-fi action-comedy that went on to become, in terms of the first 28 days of release, the third-most-watched original film ever on the streamer.

Netflix unsurprisingly took a look at those Adam Project numbers and decided to bring back the Reynolds-Levy pair, this time to cook up a heist movie. The heist genre indeed seems like a perfect venue for Reynolds and Levy to unleash their particular brand of comedy-tinged action. That being said, Reynolds did not exactly wow critics with his last big Netflix action movie, the 2021 all-star globe-trotter Red Notice. Reynolds’ track record with Levy is such that there’s every reason to believe they can pull off an entertaining heist movie, but on the other hand, Reynolds’ Netflix output has been somewhat up-and-down, so perhaps expectations should not get too out-of-hand.
