Deadpool 3 Can Fix 1 Phase 4 X-Men Insult, But There’s A Big Catch

There’s yet another X-Men mutant that Deadpool 3 can bring to the MCU, but Phase 4 already complicated his potential return. Prior to Deadpool 3, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has planted a few subtle set-ups for an eventual mutant takeover. For instance, the Maximoff twins were the only two test subjects to survive an artificial enhancement from Hydra, apparently because of their dormant abilities. Later on, Ms. Marvel revealed that Kamala Khan has a genetic mutation; and soon after, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X himself appeared as a mutant member of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Now, Deadpool 3 is the MCU’s biggest step towards the X-Men, with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine starring in their first MCU movie after their previous appearances in Fox’s X-Men films. It’s possible that both Deadpool and Wolverine will stay in the MCU and cross paths with the Avengers, which means that other mutant characters that appear in Deadpool 3 could do the same. Given his popularity and limited screen time, Evan Peters’ Quicksilver would become a strong addition to the MCU if he comes along as well.

Deadpool 3 Is The Best Way To Bring Back Evan Peters’ Quicksilver

Deadpool 3 Can Fix 1 Phase 4 X-Men Insult, But There’s A Big Catch

Evan Peters’ Quicksilver stole the show in X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but his influence on the plot seemed limited in comparison to other characters like Wolverine and Charles Xavier. Like Deadpool, Evan Peters’ Quicksilver could get more time in the spotlight by transferring to the MCU, and Deadpool‘s ambitious multiversal story provides the perfect excuse to bring him over. Since Deadpool 3 may feature one of Wolverine’s many variants, it also has the freedom to choose between the Quicksilver shown in previous movies or introduce a new multiversal variant.

WandaVision’s Ralph Bohner Twist Ruins Quicksilver’s Proper MCU ReintroductionEvan Peters as Quicksilver in X-Men and WandaVision

The problem with Evan Peters’ Quicksilver return is that the MCU already brought back a different version of the character in WandaVision, where Peters played Ralph Bohner, an actor who impersonated the MCU’s Pietro Maximoff to manipulate the Scarlet Witch. While Deadpool 3 can still bring the real Quicksilver from Fox’s X-Men franchise to the MCU, WandaVision already exhausted all the novelty in the idea and gave it a controversial twist along the way. Walking back on the Ralph Bohner twist would cast doubt on his purpose in the MCU, and allowing Ralph Bohner and Quicksilver to coexist would bring up more questions than answers.

The MCU Continues To Waste Its Best Missing Character

Evan Peters as Quicksilver in WandaVision and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Pietro Maximoff in Avengers Age of Ultron

The Multiverse Saga already integrated similarly cherished characters such as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and now Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Considering that the multiverse makes it easy to reintroduce him, Evan Peters’ portrayal of Quicksilver in the X-Men movies is an asset the MCU is still missing. Not only could Peters’ Quicksilver have more time to shine as an individual character, but his thrilling slow-motion action scenes would also bring a breath of fresh air to the MCU.

Beyond Evan Peters’ potential, the MCU has failed to do Quicksilver justice. Pietro Maximoff is a key part of Scarlet Witch’s stories and a strong link between the Avengers and the X-Men. He’s also the first mutant to appear in the franchise alongside his sister, which might become a big plot point once mutantkind starts to rise in the MCU. And at least in theory, Quicksilver’s unique speedster abilities make him an immensely powerful character. Unfortunately, Avengers: Age of Ultron killed Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver shortly after his introduction, and the MCU has largely ignored his existence.

With Fox’s X-Men franchise and The CW’s The Flash concluding, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver dead and forgotten, and the DCEU’s The Flash flopping, the superhero genre is missing a leading speedster. Not to mention, the MCU could be taking advantage of Quicksilver’s origins to continue setting up the arrival of mutants. On the bright side, while WandaVision‘s complicated Ralph Bohner twist seems like a difficult reveal to reverse, Deadpool 3 can find creative ways to use the flexible concept of the multiverse and bring a real version of Quicksilver to the MCU.
