Deadpool 3 Admits The Harsh Truth About Post-Endgame MCU – “I’m Marvel Jesus”

Deadpool 3 Admits The Harsh Truth About Post-Endgame MCU – “I’m Marvel Jesus”

The first trailer for Deadpool 3, retitled Deadpool & Wolverine, reveals the harsh truth about the status of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame. As expected, Marvel Studios unveiled the first official footage for the much-anticipated threequel from Ryan Reynolds’ famed superhero film series during Super Bowl LVIII. After years of releasing multiple big-screen projects, Deadpool & Wolverine is the only MCU film slated to release in 2024, which could be an indication of Marvel Studios’ confidence in the project. Beyond that, however, the actual trailer admits the current true state of the franchise.

Much like any Marvel production, Deadpool & Wolverine was shrouded in secrecy, although that didn’t stop Reynolds from hyping it up, especially since it also marks Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine. Eventually, various set leaks revealed pertinent information about the project, which included the possibility that it may end the Fox X-Men movie timeline. Meanwhile, actors such as Succession‘s Matthew Macfadyen and The Crown‘s Emma Corrin were reported to join the cast, as confirmed by the new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. Aside from the actual film, the clip also reveals

Deadpool’s Jesus Comparisons Reveals How Important It Will Be To The MCU

The first Deadpool & Wolverine trailer does a great job laying the premise of the prequel without revealing specific plot points. Essentially, Wade Wilson is recruited by the TVA to deal with haywire timelines, in light of the events of Loki season 2. As Macfadyen’s new character, Paradox briefs the potty-mouth hero about his job, Wade is shown clips of some of the biggest moments in the MCU. This is where he begins to hype himself up, saying “your little cinematic universe is about to change forever,”calling himself a “messiah,” and declaring “I am… Marvel Jesus.”

Wade can be overdramatic and exaggerated, but calling himself a savior is so interesting given the timing of the film’s release. It’s no secret that the MCU has struggled in the last few years. Once it came off from the high of Avengers: Endgame, it faced major issues amid a string of lackluster projects. Deadpool dubbing himself a messiah not only hypes himself up but also insinuates that Marvel needs saving. It’s almost a meta-comment from Marvel Studios, admitting that they need Deadpool & Wolverine to work to revive the MCU.

Can Deadpool 3 Really Save The MCU?

Deadpool 3 Admits The Harsh Truth About Post-Endgame MCU – “I’m Marvel Jesus”

On paper, Deadpool & Wolverine seems like the perfect project to reinvigorate the public’s interest in the MCU. Firstly, it features two fan-favorite characters, with a few more familiar faces from the Fox X-Men Universe. Secondly, it directly builds to the ongoing multiversal storyline that is expected to culminate in Avengers: Secret Wars. Finally, it will change the MCU moving forward, with the potential end of the Fox X-Men Universe, as theorized.

Deadpool & Wolverine‘s success will be a big boost to the struggling franchise, especially since it can also appeal to those who aren’t particularly fans of the MCU, but grew up watching Jackman’s Adamantium-clawed hero. That being said, the movie cannot save the universe alone. Marvel Studios needs to follow it up with strong projects to keep people’s interest and slowly repair its image as a producer of quality content.
