Dead Space Remake vs. Original Comparison Video Shows How Far We’ve Come

YouTuber and comparison video extraordinaire ElaAnalistaDeBits recently shared a Dead Space remake versus original comparison video, highlighting the differences between the older title and early footage from EA Motive. The latest Dead Space remake gameplay footage comes courtesy of yesterday’s developer livestream, a 40-minute-long showcase wherein EA Motive spoke candidly about the project’s production, thus far.

Notably, the stream confirmed that Gunner Wright will reprise his role as protagonist Isaac Clarke. The crew at Motive additionally let loose information about the upgraded dismemberment mechanics, which will include “flesh peeling.” Thus, when Isaac fires off shots at Necromorphs, players can expect to see skin rip and tissue tear in fine detail. EA Motive’s commitment to enhancing visual quality extends to the environments as well, evidenced by nascent footage and concept art that displays the sheer amount of graphical depth added to the USG Ishimura’s suffocating corridors. Comparing the old and new side-by-side showcases just how much the medium has advanced in the 13 years since Dead Space’s chilling debut.

Following EA Motive’s stream, YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits edited and posted a Dead Space “Remake VS Original” comparison video. The side-by-side footage shows that even in the remake’s early production phases lighting has improved tenfold. Darkened corridors no longer appear completely void of light, allowing other effects such as fog and reflections to color the environments. The video takes a look at Necromorphs animations, too, accentuating the way in which the remade enemies react accordingly to Isaac’s attacks. Needles to say, the Dead Space remake has already proven quite the sight to behold. See ElAnalistaDeBits’ full analysis below:

Since the remake content remains in the early developmental stages, much of the above won’t be representative of the shipped product, specifically in terms of graphical fidelity. EA Motive has also noted that things like Isaac’s suit have yet to reach their final form, so myriad changes could take shape prior to Dead Space’s 2022 rollout.

Electronic Arts announced the much-coveted project earlier this summer during EA Play Live. While EA Motive endeavors to recreate the beloved experience from stem to stern, the studio also plans on modernizing gameplay elements and expanding the narrative.

EA Motive’s Dead Space remake slices its way to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on an unspecified date in 2022.
