Dead by Daylight Confirms Hellraiser DLC & Killer

The speculation can finally come to an end; Pinhead of Hellraiser fame will indeed join Dead by Daylight‘s roster of killers in the coming weeks. A post from developer Behaviour Interactive set the rumors in motion, as a tweet featuring a scene from Hellraiser went live on the game’s official account several days ago.

Some Dead by Daylight fans viewed the hint through a more cryptic lens, positing that Five Nights at Freddy’s could serve as the next crossover due to the analog TV monitor and a “1987” tease. There was no escaping the Hellraiser (1987) scene, though, leaving Pinhead faithful to wonder when exactly the Behaviour Interactive team would confirm their suspicions. Fortunately, the wait for a reveal is already at an end.

Today, August 17, Behaviour Interactive unleashed yet another teaser for the next Dead by Daylight crossover. And, yes, Hellraiser sat front and center. The studio shared additional details with GameSpot, including key art (the featured image) of Pinhead getting his hooks into an unsuspecting Dead by Daylight survivor. Pinhead will enter the multiplayer game’s universe on an unspecified date this September via “Lament Configuration.” And the Dead by Daylight Forum page notes that PC users can currently take part in a Player Test Build of the Hellraiser Chapter by going “through a BETA-branch of the Steam version.”

As of yet, there are a host of details that Behaviour Interactive hasn’t yet confirmed. Which Hellraiser characters may appear as survivors remains a mystery, for example. Today’s tease additionally lacked information about the Hellraiser Chapter’s prospective maps. Presumably, this much and more will make the rounds in the coming weeks.

Pinhead’s debut in the Dead by Daylight universe seems especially well-timed, given that a reboot film project is presently in development. The Ritual and The Night House Director David Bruckner is helming the reboot, which will receive a direct release on Hulu. Suffice it to say, both Brucker and the development crew at Behaviour Interactive have plenty to work with, considering Pinhead’s extraordinary array of powerful abilities that range from illusion casting and teleportation to manipulation and shapeshifting.

Dead by Daylight is out now on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms; the Hellraiser DLC goes live on an unspecified date in September.
