Giancarlo Esposito has had an incredibly Rotten Tomatoes streak, but the actor’s new Breaking Bad replacement show destroys this streak after 15 years. Giancarlo Esposito is one of the most beloved TV actors of the modern day, with him appearing in beloved series like Breaking Bad, The Boys, and The Mandalorian. Esposito has just launched an all-new TV show that draws a lot of parallels with Breaking Bad, although one major difference is the quality.
Parish is a new AMC crime drama starring Giancarlo Esposito, with it shaking things up by having the beloved Gus Fring actor play the protagonist of the series. Parish follows retired criminal driver Gray Parish as he accidentally becomes embroiled in a gang war in New Orleans, with him hoping to protect his family and get out of his life of crime. Although Parish isn’t over yet, it has already set itself up to destroy a streak that started with Breaking Bad.
Parish Is Giancarlo Esposito’s First “Rotten” AMC Show After Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul
Breaking A Streak That Started 15 Years Ago
Giancarlo Esposito’s Parish has received a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes, with this being the first Esposito AMC show to do this after Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are two of the most critically acclaimed TV shows of all time, with them getting incredibly high viewer and critical ratings throughout their runs.
Parish, however, has not fared so well, with it earning 30% on the Tomatometer as of the writing of this article (via Rotten Tomatoes). This is shockingly low compared to the successes of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, showing the difference in reception between the two AMC crime dramas. Although the audience score for Parish is a lot better, with it currently sitting at 70%, the critical score has broken a streak that started 15 years ago with Breaking Bad.

Why Parish’s Reviews Are So Negative
Giancarlo Esposito Isn’t The Problem
Parish has gotten a lot of negative reviews, and these mostly have to do with the writing of the show. Critics have said that Parish is too clichéd to be interesting, with it repeating a lot of the same tropes that were already perfected by shows like Breaking Bad. The dialogue is another point of criticism, with it being too generic to be interesting.
However, the one universally acclaimed aspect of Parish so far has been Giancarlo Esposito’s performance as Gray Parish. He is the one thing that holds the show together according to critics, with some claiming that it would be unwatchable without him. So, while Parish isn’t a perfect Breaking Bad replacement, it at least provides another fantastic performance from Esposito in the same vein as Gus Fring.
