D&D’s Weakest Monster Is Coming To Magic: The Gathering

D&D’s Weakest Monster Is Coming To Magic: The Gathering

The weakest creature in the history of Dungeons & Dragons is coming to Magic: The Gathering next month, as the Flumph is one of the new monsters added in the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set. The majority of the creatures in the Monster Manual are out for blood, but the Flumph is one of the few nice monsters in the game.

Flumphs are Lawful Good creatures that will aid adventurers whenever they can. This help has to come from means outside of combat, as Flumphs are laughably weak in a fight. In the current edition of D&D, the Flumph has a CR of 1/8 and can be incapacitated by knocking it prone, as they struggle to carry their own weight. Flumphs are considered Dungeons & Dragons gag monsters, and any player who loses to one in battle might want to consider hanging their dice bag up for good and finding a new hobby, as there are few things more shameful in D&D by being taken down by a floating jellyfish.

Wizards of the Coast is giving a special honor to the Flumphs, as they will be appearing in an upcoming set for Magic: The Gathering called Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. This set will add D&D characters and concepts to Magic, and the spoilers for the set have so far revealed cards for characters like Drizzt Do’Urden and Tiamat.

The CR 1/8 Menace Of The Multiverse

D&D’s Weakest Monster Is Coming To Magic: The Gathering

According to Bell of Lost Souls, two new cards from the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set were revealed during the 300th episode of the Dragon Talk podcast. One of the cards was a spell based on Tasha’s hideous laughter and the other was a Flumph. The Flumph is a 0/4 two drop white Creature card, with Defender, Flying, and the ability to cause both players to draw a card when the Flumph takes damage.

The Flumph is considered to be a joke monster by many players, but its presence in Adventures in the Forgotten Realms is a huge honor. There are far more powerful Dungeons & Dragons creatures that likely won’t be appearing in the set, like Borys of Athas and Count Strahd von Zarovich, but many of those are restricted to their own settings and aren’t part of the Forgotten Realms. Flumphs can be found all over the D&D multiverse, and soon, they’ll be spread all over the Magic: The Gathering multiverse as well.

Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms will be released on July 23, 2021.
