DC’s Vampire Apocalypse Is Ignoring Its Most OP Hero

DC’s Vampire Apocalypse Is Ignoring Its Most OP Hero

The heroes of the DC Universe are currently desperately searching for a cure for vampirism to combat the forces of darkness in DC vs. Vampires, but they haven’t realized they already have one in the form of John Constantine. The vampires have nearly wiped out all life on Earth, infecting anyone they deem worthy, such as Wonder Woman or Green Lantern. The only solution Earth has left is to find a cure, but most are unaware that the Hellblazer currently has one.

In the pages of DC vs. Vampires, written by James Tynion IV and Matthew Rosenberg with artwork by Otto Schmidt, Earth is currently under attack by a vicious group of vampires who have slaughtered or turned the majority of Earth’s heroes. They started with Green Lantern, then Wonder Woman, and have even taken Superman. Their assault has been relentless and seemingly unstoppable. Lex Luthor managed to pass his immunized blood onto Batman, which eventually found its way into the hands and veins of Harley Quinn, making her seemingly the only cure for this vampire menace.

Despite the plot’s insistence that Harley may be the only cure for the vampire threat, it’s been proven that John Constantine’s blood is deadly to vampires in its own right. John has been shown to be alive and well in the pages of DC vs. Vampires #4 before the world falls, and is shown again in DC vs. Vampires #7 in the hidden city of Kandor. Since John isn’t dead or vampirized in any way, there’s no reason the heroes couldn’t turn to his blood for aid. After all, what they’re up against is just run-of-the-mill vampires, while John was able to use his tainted blood to kill the King of the Vampires, who was stated to be the first vampire ever made.

DC’s Vampire Apocalypse Is Ignoring Its Most OP Hero

Hellblazer #69 written by Garth Ennis and artwork by Steve Dillon, John Constantine sees down on his luck and homeless when he’s approached by the King of the Vampires, who seeks revenge for a prior encounter in Hellblazer #50. The meeting doesn’t go as the King expects, though. Constantine has given up on life and asks to just be killed. The King happily complies, biting into John’s neck and begins drinking his blood, only to have his jaw melted off due to John’s demonic blood. John is overjoyed at the hilarity of this situation and pulls the fleeing King of Vampires into the sunlight, killing him right then and there. If just a single taste of John’s blood could cause such irreparable damage to the King of the Vampires, there’s no ambiguity about what it could do to a vampiric Hal Jordan.

DC vs. Vampires is unlikely to bring up this plot point about John’s blood, seeing as how it has already ignored Superman’s resistance to vampirism due to his solar-charged blood. But if anything should happen to Harley Quinn and her immunized blood in the pages of DC vs. Vampires, humanity may still have its savior in the form of chain-smoking, perpetually drinking Laughing Magician, John Constantine.
