DC League Of Super-Pets: 10 Super-Pets That Should Appear In A Sequel

DC League Of Super-Pets: 10 Super-Pets That Should Appear In A Sequel

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is certainly making the rounds in DC Comics movies this year with DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam. The former quickly became a smash hit and many fans argued it could be the best superhero film of 2022 so far for its fun style, tone, and impressive vocal talents from the likes of Johnson, Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, Keanu Reeves, and more.

There is already interest in a sequel with hopes of establishing an entire franchise of movies. In that case, Krypto, Ace, and the Super-Pets will need some new allies and adversaries, and these characters could fit in quite well.

Streaky The Super-Cat

One of the more likely possibilities would be Supergirl’s trusty pet, Streaky the Super-Cat. She’s not only one of the most prominent animal heroes from DC Comics, but Streaky is part of the original team along with Krypto, Beppo the Super-Monkey, and Comet the Super-Horse – the former two could also make for possible additions to a sequel.

Streaky gets her powers after being exposed to a unique form of kryptonite, and though they have been teammates, she has a troubled relationship with Krypto – not trusting him at times while also having a crush on him. That dynamic would be perfect for a future Super-Pets film and would allow for Supergirl to feature too.

Rex The Wonder Dog

With Krypto and Ace at the helm, and presumably Black Adam’s dog, Anubis – who was also voiced by Johnson ahead of his DCEU debut in Black Adam – there is no shortage of dogs in these films. However, should they wish to add another heroic canine to the mix, Rex the Wonder Dog is ready for action. His moniker is not in reference to Wonder Woman, but rather his wondrous abilities and bravery.

He resembles Krypto and could actually serve as a rival on the team to him, unless Anubis fills that role. Rex has the augmented capabilities of a normal dog, enhanced intelligence, and even the ability to communicate with humans. Given his vast history in the comics even outdating Krypto, Rex would make a logical choice for a new character in a sequel.

Flexi The Plastic Bird

Hopefully, in a sequel, they would expand on the superheroes involved in the Justice League. Someone who would be a fun fit into this world is Plastic Man, who could bring along his bird, Flexi. They don’t have anyone else like Flexi in the team already, so he’d be a fantastic addition and could help a sequel join the ranks as one of DC’s best animated movies.

Flexi, like Plastic Man, is able to stretch and contort himself in nearly any fashion, a power that is far easier to translate into animation than in live-action. He’s also part of the most recent team of Super-Pets, so it would make sense to incorporate Flexi in a sequel.

Hoppy The Marvel Bunny

With the addition of Black Adam, that could hopefully lead to the arrival of Shazam – formerly known as Captain Marvel – and/or his animal counterpart, Hoppy the Marvel Bunny. He’d make another logical candidate like Flexi and Streaky so it would allow for Shazam and his supporting characters to feature. The hero’s growing popularity in the DCEU might sweeten the deal in including him in a Super-Pets movie.

Hoppy would also gain his powers by saying Shazam! and he’d be helpful in a fight against Anubis or other antagonists. While his design is particularly anthropomorphized, Hoppy could be reinterpreted more realistically. In fact, it could be fun to see him modeled off of a long and floppy-eared rabbit, just to show a variation on his powers.

Storm

Aquaman riding Storm the Seahorse

Though Krypto is the only pre-established super-pet, by the end of the film, the other pets are adopted by members of the Justice League. Respectively, Aquaman and Cyborg become the owners of Keith and Mark, a pair of superpowered guinea pigs who were initially aligned with the antagonist, Lulu. However, a sequel could still introduce a storied comics-accurate Aquaman ally, such as Storm, his giant seahorse.

This would require part of the film to be in water, but there’s definitely a way to allow Storm to live above water, even temporarily. It could make for a complicated addition to the Legion of Super-Pet’s roster, though it could be interesting to see a relatively minor animal character in an entirely new light.

Dawg

Lobo's Dog, Dawg smoking a cigarette

If they’re looking for another anti-heroes dog to join in the sequel, they needn’t look farther than Lobo’s dog, Dawg. Like Krypto, Dawg has some extraordinary abilities on behalf of being an alien, and would make for an interesting addition alongside Lobo, whether as a supporting character, antagonist, or member of the Legion.

His and Lobo’s more mature characteristics would likely need to be altered slightly for a film like this, but that shouldn’t be a deterrent. Despite his presence in the comics, Lobo’s been underutilized elsewhere, but including him and Dawg in a Super-Pets sequel could go a long way to rectifying that.

Bat-Cow

Batman has some strange allies and supporting characters, but his most bizarre is definitely Bat-Cow. It is simply a Cow with a distinct marking on its face that was saved and then raised by Robin and Batman. The film showed a goofier and lighter side to Batman than has been presented in recent Batman portrayals, and adding in Bat-Cow could take that to another level.

Bat-Cow doesn’t have any strange powers like other members of the Legion of Super-Pets, but it would still make for a fun inclusion in the sequel. However, it could very well be given superpowers and made a full member of the team. Either way, Bat-Cow is a character full of possibilities that lend themselves to stories like DC League of Super-Pets.

Gleek

Though the Wonder Twins were deemed to be not a good fit for the DCEU, they could still work in a Super-Pets sequel. As such, their alien monkey companion, Gleek, should join them. He could fill a role similar to Beppo the Super-Monkey from the original Legion of Super-Pets, but with a special flair. Gleek was an original creation of the animated series – Super Friends – and actually only made his main comics debut in 2016.

This would be a way to incorporate a set of strange and underrated characters, which could help establish other content about the Wonder Twins again farther down the line. With his agility, dexterity, and stretching tail, Gleek could make a worthy addition to the team.

Bud And Lou

The film’s ending would allow for the antagonists to return, whether Lulu the guinea pig, Whiskers the cat, or both. However, if they’d want to add other antagonists or at least their pets, Harley Quinn’s hyenas, Bud and Lou, would be a good choice. In previous portrayals, they’re simply shown as ridiculous pets, but this could showcase an alternate perspective, perhaps even having them as true antagonists.

Regardless of the level of their inclusion, this does seem to be a likely possibility. Harley Quinn has become one of DC Comic’s premiere characters thanks to one of the best animated series, Harley Quinn. A Super-Pets sequel would be wise to capitalize on that success.

Teekl

Teekl attacking Robin for Klarion the Witch Boy

Just as there are plenty of heroic dogs from DC Comics, there are also several evil cats, now including Whiskers. Two of the most prominent are Dex-Starr, a housecat turned murderous Red Lantern, and Teekl, the feline familiar to Klarion the Witch Boy. Both would make interesting inclusions in a future Super-Pets film, but Teekl especially would add a unique element to the series.

Teekl would entail some exploration of the mystical and magical side to DC Comics, and likely would incorporate characters like Zatanna, John Constantine, and/or Etrigan the Demon. In fact, this could be a way to create a Legion of Super-Pets counterpart to Justice League Dark as they go up against Teekl and its magic.
