DC Head Geoff Johns Teases New TV Series For 2017

The current wave of superhero fever may have started on the big screen, but it has definitely found its home on the small screen as well; The CW alone has five shows courtesy of DC. Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow, plus the Vertigo comic-based iZombie. Fox has another Vertigo adaptation, Lucifer, and the Batman prequel Gotham, and last year AMC debuted a critically-acclaimed first season of Preacher. Two more shows are also in the works, Black Lightning and Krypton.

Even with all these shows, and the growing DC Cinematic universe that gave us Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad in 2016, and has seven more movies in the works for the next four years, there are often rumors about possible other properties being adapted. And late last night, we got a little tease about it.

Geoff Johns, co-head and President/Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment took to Twitter to inform the world that there will be a new show announced soon:

5) More #DCTV @CW_TheFlash @CW_Arrow @Gotham @TheCW_Legends @LuciferonFOX @TheCWSupergirl and many more! One which will be announced soon…— Geoff Johns (@geoffjohns) January 1, 2017

“Soon,” of course, could mean days, weeks, or months. However long the wait is until the new show is announced, there will surely be plenty of chances for fans to express their theories. Some possibilities include Green Lantern, who has been referenced numerous times in the Arrowvers, or Booster Gold, who was supposed to have a show on the air a few years ago, and whose son Rip Hunter is one of the main characters on Legends of Tomorrow. Of course, these theories are largely based around the idea that this new show will join the others on The CW, which is not a foregone conclusion at this time.

During the same series of tweets, where Johns was looking forward towards the New Year, he also mentioned that he would be writing comics again, and teased images from two upcoming DC movies, Wonder Woman and Justice League, as well as an upcoming video game sequel to Injustice, also a DC based media.

On Fox, both Lucifer and Gotham return on January 16th. On The CW, Supergirl returns on Jan. 23, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow (on a new night) on the 24th, and Arrow on the 25th. Season 3 of iZombie premieres on The CW on Tuesday, April 4th. The game Injustice 2 will be relased sometime in 2017. Finally, Wonder Woman will be released in theaters on June 2, and Justice League on November 17.
