DC FanDome 2021 Guide: How To Watch, When It Starts & What To Expect

DC FanDome 2021 Guide: How To Watch, When It Starts & What To Expect

DC FanDome is coming back after the success of last year’s virtual event, and here’s when it starts, how to watch it, and what to expect from this year’s convention. The coronavirus pandemic was a big shake-up for the entertainment industry, with cinemas around the world having to close temporarily and movies having to be delayed, but perhaps one of the biggest changes was the cancellation of conventions like San Diego Comic-Con. In response to that particular cancellation, Warner Bros. and DC Comics created DC FanDome, an alternative for fans to get news about some of DC’s projects without having to travel and put themselves at risk.

DC FanDome is a virtual event and comic book convention about DC-based content – from comic books to video games and the DC Extended Universe and Arrowverse TV franchise as well. To make it happen, hosts and panelists were sent production kits from DC to capture their bodies on green screens and make them appear in the virtual Hall of Heroes, while other panels that happened over video conferences used unique backgrounds. All this content was shot over a two-week period and was ready to go by the time the event began. The first edition of DC FanDome took place on August 22, 2020, and September 12, 2020, and fans didn’t need to purchase anything to attend the event, which contributed in big part to its success.

The first edition of DC FanDome dropped some big news and teasers and was a big success, with fans quickly wondering if this would be an annual event or a one-time-only experience. Luckily, in April 2021, DC FanDome 2021 was confirmed, and here’s everything you need to know about it: when it begins, where and how to watch, and what to expect from this year’s big DC fandom event.

What Time DC FanDome 2021 Starts

Contrary to last year’s event, DC FanDome 2021 will take place in just one day, so fans will need to plan accordingly. The convention will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, starting at 10 am PT/1 pm ET/6 pm BST. The event is scheduled to last approximately four hours, but in case you can’t catch your favorite panels (or any at all), “select portions” of the convention will be available on the DC FanDome website until October 31, while trailers and teasers will eventually be released on YouTube.

Luckily for fans of all things DC Comics, the FanDome event can be “attended” on different platforms (and for free), depending on everyone’s preferences and more. The event will be streamed on the official FanDome website as well as on DC Comics’ official Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. As some of the content shared during the event isn’t exactly kid-friendly, there will be a special version for a younger audience streaming at DC Kids FanDome. In addition to all this, the live stream will feature subtitles in different languages (Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese) so fans can watch from different parts of the world without a problem – all you need is a steady internet connection.

The full schedule for DC FanDome 2021 hasn’t been released yet, but a teaser was. The short video shows quick looks at a variety of movies, TV shows, and video games that will be a part of the event, including some of the most anticipated releases from the DCEU. On the movie side of the convention, fans can expect panels from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Batgirl, The Batman, Black Adam, The Flash, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Blue Beetle, while fans of DC’s TV shows can expect panels from Batwoman, Doom Patrol, DMZ, The Flash, Harley Quinn, Peacemaker, Supergirl, Superman & Lois, and Sweet Tooth. Among the guests and possible representatives of other panels are JJ Abrams (who’s set to produce a Superman reboot), Reggie Hudlin (producer of the upcoming movie Static Shock), and Lynda Carter and Patty Jenkins, most likely to celebrate Wonder Woman’s 80th birthday.

From the realm of DC videogames, fans can expect panels from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Gotham Knights, and from the world of animation, there will be representatives from Catwoman: Haunted, Injustice, and Teen Titans Go! See Space Jam. Of course, once the full schedule is revealed, fans will know exactly when to tune in to watch their favorite panels and will get a better idea of what to expect from every one of them.

What News, Reveals & Trailers To Expect From DC FanDome 2021

Even without a full schedule revealed yet, fans already know some of the biggest reveals and trailers that are on their way. The aforementioned teaser confirmed that a new trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman will be revealed, which is definitely one of the most anticipated moments from this year’s DC FanDome. Fans can also expect a sneak peek at The Flash (though most likely not a teaser, as it wrapped production in early October and is scheduled for a November 2022 release), a first look at Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, and some behind-the-scenes looks at Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. On the TV side of this universe, there will be new looks and updates at shows like Peacemaker, The Flash, Superman & Lois, Batwoman, Doom Patrol, and Sweet Tooth, though there has been more emphasis on Peacemaker. Other confirmed new reveals are those of Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Warner Bros. Games Montréal’s Gotham Knights, so there will definitely be exciting news for fans of all areas of the vast DC Comics universe.

Of course, it’s very possible that Warner Bros. has a couple of surprises prepared for DC FanDome 2021, whether teasers, cast reveals, first looks, or confirmation on rumored projects and more, so fans should definitely check out the event on October 16 – and plan accordingly, as there are so many panels that a couple will end up overlapping.
