DC Debuts Dinosaur Justice League, Their Best Team Ever

Warning! Spoilers for Jurassic League #1 (of #6) by DC Comics

The Justice League are becoming dinosaurs in an incredible new Jurassic League miniseries from Daniel Warren Johnson and Juan Gedeon. The new team will see the likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and even the Joker get a prehistoric twist, as the greatest heroes and villains of the DC Universe undergo amazing transformations to become dinosaurs. The miniseries looks bonkers in all of the best ways.

Daniel Warren Johnson is one of the most exciting creative minds working in comics, as his work on series such as Beta Ray Bill, Wonder Woman: Dead Earth, and Murder Falcon has earned praise throughout the industry. Johnson’s high-octane, action-oriented style has made him one of the most instantly recognizable voices working today. Meanwhile, Juan Gedeon has worked on some of comics’ most popular series, including drawing issues of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s Venom, as well as tackling Spider-Verse and Star Wars stories for the publisher. Together, the talented creators will introduce a new Justice League team, where they become dinosaurs in Jurassic League.

On Thursday, Polygon shared exclusive details about the upcoming Jurrasic League series by Daniel Warren Johnson and Juan Gedeon. The comic will see the Justice League become dinosaurs, as Batman becomes an allosaurus named Batsaur, Wonder Women is now a triceratops called Wonderon, the Flash is a raptor named Flashraptor, Superman is a human-shaped brachiosaurus (with his normal orgin intact), and the Joker becomes a dilophosaurus. So, why are they dinosaurs, because as Johnson told Polygon, “I dig the Justice League,” Johnson wrote, “but I dig them MORE as dinosaurs.” Check out the cover for Jurassic League #1 and a preview page showing dino-versions of Batman and the Joker duking it out.

The official plot sypnopsis for Jurassic League reveals a group of super-powered dinosaurs band together as a team to save the planet from Darkseid. It’s unclear whether Darkseid is also a dinosaur or some kind of prehistoric creature. Check out the full sypnopsis from DC Comics below.

“You know the story: an infant escapes the destruction of its home planet and is deposited on Earth to be raised by human parents,” reads DC’s official plot synopsis. “A goddess from a lost city defends truth. A Theropod dons the visage of a bat to strike fear into evildoers’ hearts. This heroic trinity, alongside a league of other super-powered dinosaurs, join forces to save a prehistoric Earth from the sinister machinations of Darkseid. Wait … what? Okay, maybe you don’t know the story. So join us and bear witness to a brand-new — yet older than time — adventure and experience the Justice League as you have never seen them before!”

Jurassic League is a ridiculous concept that is going to be a hell of a lot of fun. The Justice League becoming a team of dinosaurs is absurd, but should make for an incredibly entertaining story where established DC mythos is twited in fun wayys to make the heroes more prehistoric. Readers can see the new Justice League team of dinosaurs in action when Jurassic League #1 arrives in comic book stores on May, 10th. You can learn more details for the series at Polygon.com.
