DC Dead Boy Detectives Show Ordered To Series At HBO Max

HBO Max orders a new show titled Dead Boy Detectives, based on the DC characters of the same name. The Dead Boy Detectives, named Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, are ghosts of dead boys who investigate paranormal crimes. These characters were originally created by Matt Wagner and Neil Gaiman for The Sandman comics. Charles and Edwin, along with their human friend Crystal Palace, also appear in Doom Patrol season 3.

According to TVLine, HBO Max is ordering eight episodes of Dead Boy Detectives, after having ordered a pilot in Fall of 2021. George Rexstrew will be playing Charles, and Jayden Revri will be playing Edwin, while Kassius Nelson will be playing Crystal. The writer of the pilot, Steve Yockey (producer of The Flight Attendant), is the showrunner. Yockey is also an executive producer along with Jeremy Carver, Sarah Schecter, and Greg Berlanti. Dead Boy Detectives is produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros.

Since Charles, Edwin, and Crystal already appeared in a different show portrayed by different actors, Dead Boy Detectives is sure to provide a fresh take on the characters. Instead of showing up in a later season of a show as side characters, they will be featured front and center. Based on the description provided by Warner Bros, the show will be dark, as it touches on themes of grief and loss from the perspective of dead children. Dead Boy Detectives follows a recent trend of gritty HBO Max DC shows, like Doom Patrol. While no release date has been announced, stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Dead Boy Detectives show.
