Fury Ending Explained

David Ayer’s 2014 World War II film starring Brad Pitt has a powerful yet satisfying ending that highlights the brutality and consequences of war.

How Was Fury Received?

As opposed to Ayer’s follow-up film Suicide Squad which was panned by critics, Fury received positive reviews for its lead performances and harrowing combat sequences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 76% percent score with a Critics Consensus that reads, “Overall, Fury is a well-acted, suitably raw depiction of the horrors of war that offers visceral battle scenes but doesn’t quite live up to its larger ambitions.” Under Ayer’s direction, Fury was especially able to capture the high casualty rates suffered by American tank crews who, in the relatively cheap M4 Sherman, were ill-equipped against the superior German Panzer tanks.

In addition to its critical success, Fury was also received enthusiastically at the box office by audiences. The film grossed an impressive $211 million at the worldwide box office, nearly tripling its estimated production budget of $68–80 million. On Rotten Tomatoes, its audience score of 84% exceeds its critics’ score, both of which rank among the best scores for David Ayer movies alongside End of Watch. As opposed to all the critically panned flops and box office failures that frequently appear in Netflix’s Global Top 10, Fury is a film that deserves to be there.
