Dave: 10 Things To Expect From Season 2

Dave: 10 Things To Expect From Season 2

FXX’s Dave is Lil Dicky’s sitcom which has enjoyed huge amounts of success in its first season and is gearing up for another set of episodes. The show is semi-biographical and explores the early career of one of the most famous rappers in the world today.

Season 2 of the show is sure to pick up on a number of plot threads, while also taking a look at the next few stages of Dave’s career. The show has already documented the ups and downs of this journey and the second season is likely to be an even more complex roller-coaster of successes and personal struggles as his career continues.

A Couple Reunited

Dave: 10 Things To Expect From Season 2

Dave and his girlfriend Ally broke up towards the end of the last season because his career was becoming far too important compared to their relationship.

This is an experience that Dave has had in real life, but there’s sure to be more of a story to tell here. It’s likely that because they were so strong in many other ways, Dave and Ally will give it another go in the following series.

The Final Breakup

Despite trying it one more time, it’s clear that Dave and Ally will break up again, inspiring a song about their relationship. Lil Dicky’s song about his ex-girlfriend became hugely popular in the non-fictional world.

In this fictional take on his life it’s likely that something similar will happen, with some of Dave’s greatest pain also becoming an inspiration to him, taking his career ironically to new heights.

Dave Making It Big

Like so many other music industry adaptations, of comics, books or even of real life, there comes a point in the narrative when the main character has to realise their dreams and make it big.

Often what that means isn’t that their dreams are fulfilled but they are met with the reality of what they were aiming for. Dave needs to enter that reality and understand what the music industry really is.

More Celebrity Cameos

Dave and GaTa in the studio

The show became known for its crazy celebrity cameos, even including a Kardashian, Justin Bieber and Dicky’s real life hype man GaTa. It’s likely that since Lil Dicky has a lot of high profile connections, season two will see even more great crossovers.

While the celebrity world provides some interesting conversations, the musical stars of Dave’s genre would be far more interesting to explore. Snoop Dogg in particular, who had a large impact on Dave’s career, could be a great star to include.

A New Manager

Dave is currently working with one of his lifelong friends, as he tries to navigate the music world. He’s going to quickly learn that mixing business and friendship is challenging.

At some stage in the series it’s possible that he gets a new manager; someone who is going to understand the complexities of the music industry more, creating a huge crack in their friendship.

Big Collaborations

With musical guests come the opportunity for big collaborations. There were not many collabs in the first season, but one of the things that Lil Dicky has been known for is his huge musical crossovers.

Whether it’s a song about the Earth or about a freaky Friday, Dave has often brought big names into his music and season 2 can see the start of this movement into popular collaborations.

Music Videos

Lil Dicky is also known for incredibly creative and unique music videos that play largely into the songs he is producing. This is something missing from the show so far.

Part of Dave’s brand are these cinematic stories and he hasn’t quite come to realise this yet on the show. There’s been hints here and there, but it could become a larger element in the second series.

Original Music

The concept of the show means that none of Lil Dicky’s famous songs are actually being included. That also means that there’s plenty of room for original raps.

This means that there will be lots of new music from Dave throughout season 2, helping to satisfy anyone who has been waiting for new Lil Dicky music for a while.

Career Over Friends

There’s been an ongoing theme throughout the first season of the show and even within this article. Whether he wants a new hype man instead of GaTa or Elliot getting surpassed for different talent; Dave might be making big changes.

As his career progresses Lil Dicky could choose his work over his friends, forming new allegiances and getting rid of the people that stood by him for so long.

First Solo Concert

Dave participated in a few concerts in the last series, although one saw him get removed before even making it to the stage and another was a massive success.

Season 2 could see him become successful enough to pull of his own gig, perhaps finally with the support of his initial crew to back him up during his big moment. This is the natural next step for the character.
