Darth Vader Discovers Another MAJOR Force User on Mustafar

Darth Vader Discovers Another MAJOR Force User on Mustafar

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Revelations #1

In the new Star Wars: Revelations one-shot, Darth Vader confirms he’s not the only Force user living on the lava world of Mustafar. While Vader’s fortress is built on top of a major nexus of dark-side power (close to the site of his greatest defeat), the creature known as the Eye of Webbish Bog leaves nearby as well. Possessing secret knowledge of the Force, Lord Vader has encountered the mysterious creature in the past. However, Vader was probably surprised to face the true power of the Eye in this new issue.

Previously in Marvel Comics’ Darth Vader, the Eye of Webbish Bog was instrumental in helping Vader locate the Emperor’s secret world of Exegol by granting him the same Sith Wayfinder his grandson Kylo Ren uses years later in The Rise of Skywalker. In fact, the Eye of Webbish Bog was created for the 9th episode but was ultimately cut, originally meant for Kylo Ren to encounter but was instead repurposed for Vader in the comics. At any rate, the multi-legged creature perched atop a mute giant is as strange as he is mysterious. One could perhaps compare him to the dark side version of Yoda, especially when Luke first encounters the Jedi master on Dagobah.

At any rate, the new Star Wars: Revelations #1 from Marc Guggenheim and a collection of Star Wars artists sees the Eye calling out to Darth Vader once more. Speaking in riddles, the creature attempts to warn the Dark Lord of its dark visions of the future, teasing several major events that may soon come to pass in the galaxy. While Vader grows impatient and tries to strike down the Eye of Webbish Bog, the creature reveals itself to be a Force-user as well by stopping Vader’s thrown lightsaber in midair, a testament to its own power in the dark side.

The Eye of Webbish Bog Wields The Dark Side (Rivaling Darth Vader)

Clearly, the Eye of Webbish Bog is far more familiar with the dark side that Darth Vader expected. He’s not just an oracle-type creature containing mere knowledge of the Force. Seemingly gaining the Dark Lord’s respect, the Eye continues to live by the issue’s end. However, it doesn’t seem as though Darth Vader will truly heed the Eye’s warnings, having far too much pride and arrogance to accept its help while also believing the visions are likely flawed to some degree.

While this issue is essentially an in-universe preview for what readers can expect from Marvel’s various Star Wars series heading into 2023, the new reveals regarding the Eye of Webbish Bog are particularly intriguing. There’s very little information about its origins and where it came from, though Darth Vader and readers now have a clearer understanding of its power in the dark side. Star Wars: Revelations #1 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
