Dark Shadows: Burton And Depp Reunited… Again

Every few years Hollywood has great cinematic pairings: We have had John Ford and John Wayne, Alfred Hitchcock and Cary Grant, Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney and er… Adam Sandler and Frank Coraci.

However we have also been graced with the genius pairing that is Johnny Depp and Tim Burton.

Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd they are Hollywood’s Gothic dream team, and they are about to hit the sound stage again with Dark Shadows – a Depp produced adaptation of the “Gothic soap opera” that ran from 1966 to 1971.

Sounds like something that these guys could make with their eyes closed and their hands tied behind their backs.

I’m a huge Burton and Depp fan, Ed Wood is one of my favorite films, and I love Edward Scissorhands so I’m quite excited by this. In fact anything that Burton touches means that I’m at the cinema and that I have the DVD.

John August is scripting the feature. He previously penned Big Fish, The Corpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so there isn’t a big surprise with this news! Let’s just hope that they bring Danny Elfman along for the ride.

It should be something to look forward to, but I presume that Dark Shadows is a long way off, as August is only working on the script at the moment.

That said, good things come to those who wait.

Then again, I’m pretty sure that I said that about Burton’s Planet of the Apes.

More news as we get it.
