There’s a director attached to Blake Crouch’s Dark Matter TV show who’s being given the chance to be involved with a well-loved sci-fi trope that she missed in her most well-known production. This member of Crouch’s creative team has a storied history within the genre, but her most famous project never explored one of the most fun but overused science-fiction tropes during her time on the iconic show.

Dark Matter is adapted from a novel of the same name and was also written by Blake Crouch. The author serves as showrunner for the Apple adaptation as well as penning most of the show’s scripts himself. The first look at Dark Matter makes the project look very promising. The show follows Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen as he takes a trip through the multiverse to save his family. The mind-bending story will be directed by an array of people, but one of Dark Matter‘s directors is particularly well suited to the role due to her history in the industry.

Roxann Dawson will be among the directing credits for the Dark Matter TV show, and her name may be familiar to Star Trek fans. Dawson is most known in the Star Trek fandom for her role as B’Elanna Torres in Star Trek: Voyager. As a key member of the Star Trek: Voyager cast, Dawson portrayed the human/Klingon hybrid in all seven seasons of the Star Trek spinoff show. However, throughout her spell as the USS Voyager’s chief engineer, Torres never featured in a multiverse story. So, Dark Matter finally gives Dawson the chance to tick off that box.

Embodying B’Elanna Torres isn’t Roxann Dawson’s only connection to the Star Trek universe. The actor also began her directing career with Voyager during her time on the show, leading the production for 2 episodes. Dawson’s relationship with the franchise didn’t end when Voyager aired its finale. Instead, she returned to direct the Star Trek: Enterprise cast for 10 installments of the show, which began just four months after its predecessor finished. Although Enterprise did have a Mirror Universe arc, Dawson was not in the director’s chair, an unfortunate fact that extended her multiversal dry spell.

Dawson’s directing career has continued to flourish in the wake of her Star Trek fame.
