Daredevil Season 3 Set Photos Put Wilson Fisk On Trial

It looks as if season 3 of Daredevil will see Wilson Fisk attempt to gain his freedom—but the public isn’t on The Kingpin’s side. With the Netflix corner of the MCU telling prolonged stories across multiple seasons (and shows), this year will see DaredevilLuke Cage, and Jessica Jones all pick up threads from their previous season and The Defenders. Jessica will be facing the trauma of Kilgrave, Luke will team up with Misty and Danny, and Daredevil will once again square off against Wilson Fisk.

Though originally more of a Spider-Man villain, The Kingpin has slowly become one of Daredevil’s chief nemeses in the comics. Likewise, season 1 of Daredevil positioned the crime boss as a dark reflection of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Season 2 reduced him to a subplot involving the Punisher, but we know Wilson Fisk will be back in a big way. Season 3 of Daredevil will see Kingpin evolve as a character, and audiences are likely to see the villain gain more of his comic book swagger and confidence. And while all of that will be bad news for Matt Murdock, Fisk will first need to get out of prison.

Twitter user Gore Gab has some set photos from the filming of Daredevil season 3, teasing a court scene involving a trial for Wilson Fisk. And from the signs held by the protestors outside, it seems Hell’s Kitchen isn’t ready to absolve the Kingpin of his crimes.

Season 2 of Daredevil showed Fisk could easily get someone out of prison if he wanted (and that he was still a match for Murdock). It seems, however, that he’ll be taking a more legal route to gain his freedom. Likely, this will all be part of a plan to vindicate himself in the eyes of the public. In the comics, Kingpin is both a crime boss and a business leader, something he was better able to juggle in season 1. For his return in season 3, it seems he’ll be trying to reclaim that position.

With the Punisher wiping out the criminal competition in New York, Fisk will have a vacuum of power to fill if he gets free. It won’t be easy, however, as the FBI will be a big presence this year. Season 3 of Daredevil has cast FBI agents aplenty, including a character that could be the anti-hero Sin-Eater. While it looks as if they’ll all be on the trail of Daredevil, Fisk will need to watch himself as well.

Marvel Comics has a long history of villains coming back from horrendous reputations and winning public trust, something that’s not all that uncommon in the real world. Norman Osborn has run S.H.I.E.L.D., Loki has run for president, and even the Kingpin is the mayor in the current comics. If Fisk does find public redemption this year, he could have a political future ahead of him. Either way, his freedom will spell trouble for Daredevil.
