Daredevil Fan Art Hilariously ‘Ruins’ Hero by Changing One Letter

Marvel’s Daredevil might be a serious hero, but a new piece of fan art reimagines the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in a hilarious way. The art was done by Eisner and Ringo-nominated creator Dan Schkade. He made it by replying to the prompt “ruin a superhero by changing one letter,” changing the first D in Daredevil to an H with a comedic result.

Daredevil, of course, is one of Marvel’s most recognizable and popular heroes. Created by Stan Lee, Bill Everett, and Jack Kirby, Daredevil first appeared in Daredevil #1 back in 1964. Stan Lee cited his desire to create a blind superhero as inspiration for the character. In his civilian persona, Matt Murdock works as a lawyer fighting for justice, but when justice eludes the court system, he fights crime using his heightened senses as the vigilante Daredevil.

Now, in a twitter post, artist Dan Schkade shared an alternate version of Matt Murdock, here named Haredevil. It’s worth noting that this Haredevil version isn’t a straight-up bunny dressed in a Daredevil costume. Instead, it’s an actual human dressed as Daredevil with bunny features, the most notable of which are too long bunny ears positioned right behind the horns on his head. The human, which fans would probably love to assume is some variation of Matt Murdock, also has two large buck teeth reminiscent of Bugs Bunny. The most awesome part of the ensemble is the billy clubs he holds in each hand, which have been transformed to resemble carrots. Of course, instead of a DD on his chest, Haredevil is proudly sporting an HD.

The response to the piece has been positive, with many Twitter users even noting how the artist didn’t ruin the character but actually made Daredevil better. It was noted that Daredevil’s super-sensitive hearing would probably be improved with the bunny ears. Some commented that Hairdevil was also better than other Daredevil animal mash-ups such as Deerdevil and Beardevil.

Dan Schkade has had several pieces of mash-up fan art that have gone viral. After Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration for president, a meme of Bernie Sanders sitting in a chair went viral all across social media. In a tweet captioned “I couldn’t sleep,” Schkade posted Bernie Sanders as the DC supervillain Metron, sitting hilariously in the Mobius Chair. More recently, Schkade also did a crossover between Tintin and the Punisher Frank Castle, which was actually retweeted by Punisher co-creator Gerry Conway. If the past is any indication, Schkade should have more mash-ups like this Daredevil one coming in the future.
