As per the report, Genneya Walton has joined the cast in an undisclosed role, though “she is said to be playing a young journalist with connections to a character from the original series.” This news comes after Daredevil: Born Again‘s set photo details revealed plenty of aspects of Netflix’s Daredevil were being revisited in the show. Therefore, Walton’s casting as a journalist with connections to an original character reignites rumors surrounding the character of Ben Urich.
Ben Urich’s Legacy Lives On In The MCU’s Daredevil: Born Again
In the original Netflix series, Ben Urich was an investigative journalist working for the New York Bulletin. Throughout Daredevil season 1, Urich aided the characters of Matt Murdock, Karen Page, and Foggy Nelson in uncovering Wilson Fisk/Kingpin’s criminal empire. However, Fisk killed Urich before exposing the crime boss, though his legacy seems to continue in Daredevil: Born Again through Walton’s casting. The casting of Walton as confirmed by Deadline aligns with rumors about Daredevil: Born Again‘s cast, some from as far back as 2023 that speculated Walton’s character was connected to Ben Urich somehow.
While these rumors are still unconfirmed, Deadline‘s report into Walton’s character seems to support her character being a relative of Daredevil‘s Ben Urich. Given how crucial a role Urich had in Daredevil season 1 thanks to his aid in investigating Fisk, it would make sense for a descendant of the former to take up the fight once Kingpin’s criminal activities are resumed in Daredevil: Born Again. Not only would this honor the legacy of a beloved character in Ben Urich, but it would allow a talented actor like Genneya Walton to flesh out her own compelling character in the MCU.
