Everyone’s new favorite private detective Benoit Blanc is returning in Knives Out 2‘s first-look images. Daniel Craig is returning to lead the ensemble cast of the murder mystery sequel featuring franchise newcomers Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista and Ethan Hawke. Frequent Rian Johnson collaborator Noah Segan, who appeared in the previous Knives Out as Trooper Wagner, has also previously teased his return with a photo of the director from the set of the film.Plot details for the film, entitled Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, are currently being kept under wraps, though it’s said to follow Craig’s Benoit Blanc as he travels to Greece and gets wrapped up in a new murder mystery. Johnson, who earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay with the original Knives Out, is back at the helm for the upcoming sequel with a script he penned. Though the new Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery image may not reveal much in the way of the story of the film, it does offer an enticing look at the star-studded roster of the highly anticipated sequel. One of the more interesting takeaways from the Knives Out 2 image is its first look at Janelle Monáe’s undisclosed character, who was absent in the brief footage screened for the film this past February. With her being featured prominently in the behind-the-scenes image with Rian Johnson for the new movie, it will be interesting to see if Monáe takes on a similar role to that of Ana de Armas’ Marta Cabrera and becoming Blanc’s confidante as he tries to solve his new mystery.

In addition to the new Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery image, Netflix has revealed that the murder mystery sequel is set to hit the streaming platform this December, in time for the holiday and awards season. Given the first film already caught both the Golden Globe and Academy Awards’ attention, being nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the latter and Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and both Best Actor and Actress for Craig and de Armas. Only time will tell if the sequel enjoys the same level of critical success when Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premieres on December 23.
