Dane DeHaan Is An “Open Book” Serial Killer In The Stranger Clip [EXCLUSIVE]

Dane DeHaan is a terrifying serial killer in an exclusive The Stranger clip. Written and directed by Veena Sud, the thriller revolves around a rideshare driver new to Los Angeles whose latest pick-up turns out to be a menacing psychopath, resulting in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse across the city over the course of one night. Also starring It Follows‘ Maika Monroe and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City‘s Avan Jogia, the project first found life as a Quibi show before Sud reacquired the rights and cut it into a movie.

Ahead of its premiere on Hulu on April 15, Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive clip from The Stranger. The video, as seen at the top of this article, shows the first interaction between Monroe’s Clare and DeHaan’s Carl E. as she attempts to have a friendly conversation with him and learn why she picked him up from a Hollywood Hills mansion. The moment quickly turns sinister as Carl E. reveals he actually murdered the inhabitants of the home, leaving Clare unnerved.

The Stranger’s Unique BTS Journey Is Destined For Cult Greatness

With its upcoming Hulu release, The Stranger marks one of the few projects initially released as a Quibi title to find a new home after the streaming service shuttered. In addition to that, the RENO 911! revival was able to shift to The Roku Channel to release its remaining filmed episodes, while also getting two feature-length specials for Paramount+, whose owner was behind its original Comedy Central run. The Christoph Waltz-starring Most Dangerous Game also saw season 2 release on the same streamer, though the show was removed entirely four months after its premiere.

New On Hulu: All 104 Movies & TV Shows Arriving In April

Hulu continues to be a big player among streamers with the arrival of new original programming along with classic movies and TV shows in April.

Though the movie didn’t change much other than its format and editing, the unique path for The Stranger to make its way back to the screen makes it prime to become a cult favorite, if not an outright hit, in the years to come. Ridley Scott is notable for having many of his movies get later director’s cuts that drew more eyes to finding the differences between them. The series version may not be available to stream anymore, but there’s sure to be interest in discovering how it works in a feature-length format over the Quibi 10-minute episode one.

The other major benefit The Stranger has in potentially becoming a cult hit following its Hulu release is its cast. Monroe is often seen as an indie horror darling following her breakout turn in It Follows, which she will be revisiting with the in-development They Follow, while DeHaan has garnered acclaim in everything from such blockbuster fare as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to more chilling, smaller-scale titles like the adaptation of Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story. With the release around the corner, only time will tell if The Stranger‘s behind-the-scenes journey bolsters its longevity.
