Damsel Cast & Character Guide: Who’s Joining Millie Bobby Brown In The Netflix Fantasy Movie

Damsel Cast & Character Guide: Who’s Joining Millie Bobby Brown In The Netflix Fantasy Movie

Netflix’s next big fantasy movie is Damsel, and many of the Damsel cast and characters have already been revealed. Netflix announced the movie after the success of the Enola Holmes movie for the streamer. Millie Bobby Brown stars in both. Damsel finished filming in July of 2022 and Netflix originally slated the movie to release in October of 2023, but the streamer has pushed it to 2024. A book from Evelyn Skye has been written in conjunction with the movie’s script by Dan Mazeau.

Damsel follows the trials of a young woman (Brown) whose marriage to a prince is arranged by the royal family. When she sets out to marry the prince, however, she discovers that the arrangement has all been a ruse, and she is set to be sacrificed to a dragon instead. Initially, she thinks she just has to survive long enough for someone to save her as a “damsel in distress,” but eventually realizes that no one is coming, and she’ll have to save herself. The Damsel cast of characters is full of royalty who play a part in the sacrifice.

Millie Bobby Brown As Princess Elodie

Damsel Cast & Character Guide: Who’s Joining Millie Bobby Brown In The Netflix Fantasy Movie

Millie Bobby Brown plays the titular damsel of the movie, Princess Elodie. She is initially an excited princess who believes she’s going to marry her Prince Charming. Her world is turned upside down when she is sacrificed to a dragon instead and has to find a way to survive on her own.

Millie Bobby Brown is pulling double duty on Damsel, just as she has with Netflix’s Enola Holmes franchise. She both stars in and produces the movies. Brown is best known for her role as Eleven in Stranger Things, but she’s been building an impressive career. She’s also become a part of the Godzilla franchise with Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs Kong.

Angela Bassett As Lady Bayford

Angela Basset stars as Lady Bayford in the Damsel cast. Lady Bayford is the stepmother of Bown’s Princess Elodie, though just what happened to her mother isn’t clear.

Playing nobility should be no problem for Bassett as she’s been the Queen of Wakanda in Marvel’s Black Panther movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her long career, however, features a variety of roles, from an assassin in Gunpowder Milkshake to a woman searching for love in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. She’s also been a mainstay in the American Horror Story series and in the first responder drama 9-1-1.

Robin Wright As Queen Isabelle

Since Robin Wright is best known for playing a princess in the 1980s, it seems poetic that she plays Queen Isabelle here. Not much is known about her character just yet other than she is one of the royals who play a role in tricking Princess Elodie.

Wright is, of course, best known as Princess Buttercup in The Princess Bride, but also for her turn as Jenny in Forrest Gump. Like Basset, her long career has seen a variety of performances from her. Wright also played Antiope, a warrior among Amazons in Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman movies, but is better known for dramas like Message In A Bottle. She also pulled triple duty on some projects, like the Netflix series House of Cards in which she starred, produced, and even directed some episodes.

Ray Winstone As The King

Ray Winstone will play the King in the cast of Damsel. The King is said to be someone torn between love and duty in the movie, which indicates he likely feels guilty about repeatedly sacrificing princesses to a dragon.

Winstone has actually appeared with Wright in projects in the past, most notably Beowolf, so he’s no stranger to fantasy projects. Winstone is best known for dramatic roles like Mr. French in The Departed, but he’s varied up his acting resume with work in more family-friendly projects as well. He voiced Papa Bear in Puss In Boot: The Last Wish, and then went a little darker to play the villain Dreykov in the Black Widow movie.

Nick Robinson As Prince Henry

Simon sits on the hood of his car in Love, Simon.

Of the Damsel cast, Nick Robinson will star as Prince Henry. Henry is Elodie’s love interest in the movie.

While Nick Robinson arguably got his big break in the critically acclaimed drama Kings of Summer in 2013, the role that got the most eyes on his work is likely Jurassic World. He also starred as Ryder in the sitcom Melissa and Joey for five years before taking on larger roles in movies. He’s best known for playing Simon in Love, Simon, but had another dramatic and darker turn in the Netflix series Maid.

Supporting Cast In Netflix’s Damsel

Shohreh Aghdashloo staring ahead in The Expanse season 5

Ricky Guillart plays a character named Sir Oded in the cast of Damsel. There isn’t, however, anything known about Sir Oded just yet. Guillart’s career is relatively young. He’s best known for voicing Zack Underwood in Milo Murphy’s Law, though he has had uncredited roles in Marry Me and Malvada.

Brooke Carter plays Princess Élodie. While their names are similar, she is not the younger version of Millie Bobby Brown’s character. Instead, she is Prince Henry’s younger sister in Damsel. Carter has only been acting professionally since 2020 and has a handful of roles to her credit. She’s appeared in The Alienist, The Irregulars, and The Peripheral. Her role in the Damsel cast is her first movie.

Shohreh Aghdashloo appears in the Damsel cast in a role that has yet to be revealed. Aghdashloo began her career in Iran in the 1970s but has become an international actress in both movies and television. She’s best known for starring as Chrisjen Avasarala in The Expanse, but she’s also appeared in The Flight Attendant and Netflix’s The Punisher. She’s also done a large amount of voiceover work. TV fans will recognize her voice from shows like Archer and Arcane.

More of the Damsel cast members will likely be revealed closer to the streaming date of the movie for Netflix.
