Daisy’s Living In A Time Loop In New Agents of SHIELD Season 7 Trailer

Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) is stuck in a horrifying time loop in the newest Agents of SHIELD season 7 trailer. The final season of Agents of SHIELD has taken the main team throughout several points in history as they try to stop the alien Chronicoms from erasing SHIELD and taking over the earth. First, the team stopped in 1931 for a run-in with FDR. Then, in the 1950s, they met Agent Carter fan favorite Daniel Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) and saved him from an untimely death. Since then, Daisy and the others have had adventures in the 70s and 80s, where they (temporarily) brought an end to the Chronicoms.

Of course, that isn’t quite the case, and last night’s episode, “After, Before,” saw the team facing their latest obstacle: Their time travel technology was malfunctioning to the point where they kept jumping forward at increasingly smaller increments. Their only solution involved sending Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) and May (Ming-Na Wen) to the Inhuman sanctuary Afterlife so Daisy’s mom Jiaying (Dichen Lachmen) could fix her powers. And while the tech was temporarily fixed, the final moments of the episode saw the Zepyhr make one last jump into the unknown.

It still isn’t clear where the SHIELD team ended up, but the promo for next week’s episode (via TV Promos), “As I Have Always Been,” gives some clues. While Deke (Jeff Ward) says they’re trapped in a “time storm,” it’s Daisy who finds herself stuck in a time loop. Check it out below.

Agents of SHIELD season 7 has consistently found new twists to put on various episodes, like the noir tale found in episode 4 and last week’s 80s homage-filled installment. Time loops are a well-known trope now in pop culture, thanks to movies like Groundhog Day and Hulu’s new Palm Springs, but Agents of SHIELD has never done one of its own. That makes next week’s episode even more intriguing, especially because it suggests various team members will die unless Daisy finds a way to break the loop. It’s a good thing she seems to have LMD Coulson (Clark Gregg) on her side.

With Agents of SHIELD fast approaching its end, there’s a lot of curiosity surrounding how everything will come together. There are still a lot of storylines the show has to juggle, like the Chronicoms’ continued existence and Fitz’s (Iain de Caestecker) prolonged absence. However, it’s safe to say fans are enjoying this last ride with the SHIELD team, and hopefully they’ll manage to pull off an equally epic ending. First, though, Daisy has to solve this latest perplexing problem.

Agents of SHIELD season 7 continues with “As I Have Always Been” on July 22 on ABC.
