Bridgerton season 3 showrunner assures that Anthony and Kate won’t face major conflicts. Season 2 of the popular Netflix show focused on Anthony’s (Jonathan Bailey) tenuous romance with Kate (Simone Ashley), and viewers eventually fell in love with the couple’s difficult but passionate love story. Although Bridgerton season 3 will pick up with Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin’s (Luke Newton) romance, Anthony and Kate will return in future episodes as Viscount and Viscountess. At the end of Brigderton season 2, the pair got married, and season 3 will see them adjusting to married life.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed that Bridgerton season 3 will show Anthony and Kate’s new dynamic relationship as an established couple. She also assured that no “big new conflicts” will be introduced for the couple, who already faced plenty of obstacles to finding each other in season 2. In addition, Brownell teased that the couple will be in a “more playful, lovey space,” which indicates that their marriage will be going strong in season 3. See Brownell’s full quote below:
“It was really thrilling to have Simone and Johnny back and getting to see what Anthony and Kate’s married life looks like. With them, we’re not really interested in introducing any big new conflicts into their relationship. We feel like they’ve been through the hard stuff, and we want viewers to get to see them in a more playful, lovey space.”
Anthony and Kate’s Roles In Bridgerton Season 3, Explained
While Bridgerton season 1 centered on Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page), only Daphne appeared briefly in season 2. However, Daphne’s small role in season 2 assured viewers that her marriage with Simon continues to be happy and that she remains close to her family. As the eldest Bridgerton child, Anthony will likely have a slightly larger role in season 3 as he continues to assist with the family’s affairs.
As Colin navigates his complex romantic life, Anthony may serve as a mentor to his younger brother, speaking from a place of experience now that he has a successful relationship with Kate. Similarly, Kate, who was already established as a nurturing presence and mentor in her relationship with younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran), could develop a comparable relationship with the younger Bridgerton girls as they prepare to enter the social scene. After the experiences they weathered in season 2 and throughout their tumultuous lives, Anthony and Kate will likely have plenty of wisdom to pass on to the younger generation as they enjoy their happy ending.
Bridgerton Season 3’s Romance Already Risks Copying Anthony & Kate’s Story
Bridgerton season 3’s upcoming romance between Colin and Penelope may struggle to avoid becoming a copycat of Anthony and Kate’s story.
One pressing question that season 3 may also answer is whether Anthony and Kate will have children in the television series. Daphne and Simon’s children made a brief appearance in season 2, and Anthony and Kate are set to make the Bridgerton clan even bigger, though the series may take its time exploring Anthony and Kate’s transition into their eventual new roles as parents. Whatever Anthony and Kate are up to in Bridgerton season 3, it is comforting to know that their biggest conflicts are behind them.
