Cyborg Is Bringing Two Teen Titans Animated Villains into DC Canon

Fans of the 2003 Teen Titans cartoon are about to see some familiar faces join Cyborg’s rogues’ gallery. A look at Victor Stone’s upcoming series revealed that two of the hero’s animated foes are making the leap to comics to vex Cyborg once more.

At WonderCon, DC Comics held a panel that provided an in-depth look at several stories the publisher has coming out later this year as part of its Dawn of DC initiative. In addition to previews of the upcoming Wonder Woman run from Tom King and Daniel Sampere, as well as Batman: The Brave and the Bold, fans got a peek at what they could expect from the new Cyborg series from Morgan Hampton and Tom Raney.

In addition to preview pages, fans got to see character designs for the cast of the upcoming comic. But the real surprise came when it was revealed that two villains that will be featured in the story are being plucked straight out of the 2003 Teen Titans animated series. Billy Numerous and See-More of the H.I.V.E. Five, complete with show-accurate costumes, are just some of the villains that Cyborg will be facing in his latest adventure.

Fan-Favorite Teen Titans’ Villains are Coming to the DCU

HIVE Five Teen Titans DC Comics

The 2003 animated series Teen Titans was created by Glen Murakami and Sam Register and was heavily influenced by the New Teen Titans era stories from Marv Wolfman and George Pérez. The show featured Robin, Cyborg, Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy, and included some of their most well-known antagonists such as Deathstroke, Trigon, and Brother Blood. The cartoon also introduced its own original villains such as Johnny Rancid and Mother Mae-Eye. The H.I.V.E. Five, composed of some of their most recurring foes, was a combination of new and existing villains.

Despite the show’s popularity among fans, very little of the original characters created for the cartoon have come to the DCU. Red X, one of the most infamous creations in the show, did become a part of Teen Titans Academy, but no other characters have become a part of the DC Universe just yet. However, that’s changing with Hampton and Raney bringing in Billy Numerous and See-More to become full-fledged members of Vic’s cache of villains. Not only will the move present him with some interesting challenges, it could really help bolster Cyborg’s lacking set of enemies.

Cyborg New Series - DC Comics

This isn’t to say that Cyborg doesn’t have any enemies of his own, as he does have some. But considering the rise in popularity Victor has had since his push in the New 52 era, his rogues’ gallery is a bit underdeveloped. Bringing in villains from the Teen Titans show is a fantastic move as it gives him villains that fans already have a connection to, but also present new challenges for Cyborg. It also paves the way for other Teen Titans villains to show up down the line, such as Kyd Wykkyd or the animated incarnation of Jinx. Fans of the animated Teen Titans can see Billy Numerous and See-More make their debut in Cyborg, beginning May 16th, 2023.
