Cyberpunk 2077’s Biggest Mystery Is In Witcher 3’s Next-Gen Update

Cyberpunk 2077’s Biggest Mystery Is In Witcher 3’s Next-Gen Update

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update not only introduces new features and bug fixes into the game, but also adds a reference to a big mystery from Cyberpunk 2077. The connection between the two CD Projekt Red titles first appears in a conversation between Ciri and Geralt in the Isle of Mist. When Geralt asks about the places she had visited, Ciri mentions that she had stayed in a world where people had metal in their heads and waged war from a distance. Although Geralt does not believe his adopted daughter’s words, some players could immediately understand that Ciri is likely referring to the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

Players can discover several references to The Witcher 3 in Cyberpunk 2077. One of the most well-known might be the Ciri Easter egg in Cyberpunk 2077, where there’s a magazine called Retro Gaming in corpo V’s desk drawer. The magazine cover features Ciri wielding a sword, and it also names The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as the game of the month. Although it is a fun nod to CDPR’s previous game, it is clear that the Easter egg does not have any lore implication. However, the latest discovery in The Witcher 3 might deepen the connection between the two CD Projekt Red titles.

The Magenta Mystery’s Symbol Appears In The Witcher 3 After Update

One of the first people who discovered Cyberpunk 2077’s Magenta Mystery in Velen’s Destroyed Bastion is YouTuber xLetalis. The reference is located inside a dark room filled with immortal specters that cannot be killed even when using the best sword in The Witcher 3, but players can still look at the symbol by entering the photo mode. The iconography consists of an ouroboros circling a magenta-colored triangle with several letters in the Glagolitic alphabet. It also features a circuit pattern that can be found on various multi-armed statues in Cyberpunk 2077.

The Magenta Mystery Might Be Connected To The Vampires In The Witcher 3

A similar iconography actually appears in the game before the update, and it seems to be connected to the vampires in The Witcher 3. The symbol can be found in two places: Regis’ gloves and the gate to the vampire world that the Unseen Elder protects. Even though it is unclear what sort of connection the vampire and the Magenta Mystery might have, it seems unlikely that Cyberpunk 2077 could be the origin world of the blood-sucking creatures.

One possible answer to this mystery is that the symbol could just be a fun reference to Cyberpunk 2077. After all, Cyberpunk 2077 also has several Easter eggs that mention other popular series, such as Harry Potter and Cowboy Bebop. On the other hand, the Magenta Mystery feels too complex and deep to be left unanswered, and there is a chance that further discoveries about the statues could be made in the Phantom Liberty expansion. Still, as of now, Cyberpunk 2077’s Magenta Mystery and its connection to the vampires from The Witcher 3 remains unsolved.
