Cyberpunk 2077 Stream Set For Tomorrow, Next-Gen Update Reveal Likely

CD Projekt Red has announced that a Cyberpunk 2077-related stream will take place tomorrow, with many fans guessing that it will have something to do with the upcoming next-gen console versions of the game. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions of Cyberpunk have been in the making for a long time, but CD Projekt Red revealed that these versions of the 2020 title will be released sometime during the first quarter of this year.

When it comes to contentious and controversial video game releases, no discussion would be complete without mention of Cyberpunk 2077. The futuristic Polish-developed RPG was touted as “the next big thing” leading up to its release, with megastars like Keanu Reaves getting involved and singing the game’s praises (despite having never actually played Cyberpunk, apparently). The game’s case was helped by the fact that CD Projekt Red had formerly developed the beloved Witcher series, which many gamers consider among the best RPG franchises around. Cyberpunk wanted to be far more ambitious than its high-fantasy predecessor, however, with advanced combat and movement mechanics, personalization options, and a mature, branching story all being promised by the development team. Unfortunately, many and more of these expectations would not be met, and the game’s performance on console was lackluster at best, unplayable at worst – an issue that was exacerbated by the fact that next-gen gamers were forced to play PS4 and Xbox One versions of this title.

That could be about to change, though, as a Tweet from the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account has just announced a stream set for tomorrow afternoon. This spontaneous announcement, coupled with the aforementioned info about the game’s next-gen versions dropping in Q1 2022, indicates that this stream will at the very least touch on these next-gen upgrades. The stream is scheduled for February 15, 4PM CET.

The next-gen versions of Cyberpunk, much like the base game itself, have been delayed numerous times. For many fans, this can only be considered a good thing, as many of Cyberpunk‘s shortcomings have been attributed to it being released far before it was ready. Indeed, Cyberpunk has a number of positive traits for fans willing to look past the game’s bugs and performance issues, so a solid next-gen version will definitely help console players improve their experience.

From a PR standpoint, CD Projekt Red might not be able to weather a bad next-gen upgrade; the company’s stock dropped sharply following Cyberpunk‘s initial release, so spurned gamers are likely to put this updated version under the microscope whenever it comes out. Hopefully, Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will be up to modern standards.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
