The anime Tales of Wedding Rings proves that the harem isekai will be putting more of the right focus on the Ring King’s five princesses when the second season begins. Luckily, Crunchyroll has confirmed that Tales of Wedding Rings season 2 is in production, so fans will get to see it actually play out on screen beyond the original manga by Maybe, but the official date has yet to be determined.

Up until the final twist that switched the focus away from the Ring King in the season finale, the role of the Ring King’s harem of five princesses was essentially just to strengthen their bond with him, so that he could defeat the Abyss King. The Ring King’s power might have depended on their rings, and he sometimes may have had to convince some of them to join him, but the Ring King was always truly the star of the show.

Moreover, many of the princesses saw their main purpose as a means to support the Ring King. However, since the Ring King fails to defeat the Abyss King on his own in episode 12, the strategy quickly shifts to training his harem, so the princesses can fight alongside him, rather than watch from the sidelines. The irony is that this training is referred to as “wife training”.

Tales of Wedding Rings Will Finally Put More Emphasis on the Morally Right Thing

Of course, this change in strategy also means something else, and it unabashedly caters to the reason why many viewers are watching Tales of Wedding Rings. The Ring King will have “to get closer” to each of his wives. However, it’s no surprise why the series is putting more of an emphasis on the magical aspect of training. It has to do with why the season finale’s bedchamber scene was cut off at the best moment. This is due to the fact that, as many of the comments on Crunchyroll’s message boards have been saying, the Ring King has no spine. This is a major point of contention with viewers, who are upset by the Ring King being unable to consummate any of his marriages. It’s very unlikely that season 2 will change this.

Although this is upsetting for many fans of this type of content, it will allow the anime to treat each princess as a capable warrior as opposed to just being. This isn’t to say, however, that the princesses have been portrayed exclusively as worthless characters. Granart Needakitta is a straight-up warrior, who easily defeated the Ring King in combat without his rings. Saphir Maasa can transform into a massive dragon, something which the Ring King has relied on a little too much. And Amber Idanokan was built with many incredible abilities that have already helped the group many times, even though she just recently joined the harem, likely ending the adventure aspect of the series.

It just means that more time will be devoted to their individual strengths, while the defeat of the Abyss King will be contingent on their strength as warriors, as opposed to them just being there to support and empower the Ring King. Now, all fans need to do to actually see this happen is for Tales of Wedding Rings season 2 to debut on Crunchyroll.
