Critical Role has a new trailer for the next chapter of their ongoing anthology horror series, Candela Obscura, debuting at the end of this month. The new chapter will once again feature an incredible cast, including Critical Role’s own Liam O’Brien and Sam Riegel, along with Gina Darling, Ashly Burch, and Noshir Dala. Aabria Iyengar will step into the role of Game Master following the incredible work of Matt Mercer and Spenser Starke.
The Candela Obscura series features the TTRPG of the same name, developed and published by Critical Role’s own Darrington Press. The game, which uses the Illuminated Worlds system, was created by Taliesin Jaffe and Chris Lockey. The lead designers and writers are Starke and Rowan Hall. The Candela Obscura Core Rulebook will be available on November 14, and the next chapter of the Candela Obscura series will debut on November 30.

The trailer for Candela Obscura: Circle of Tide & Bone is just as mysterious as the first two chapters, keeping story details under wraps. However, there are hints to the characters that these players will embody. O’Brien will be stepping into the role of an older and potentially more established member of Candela Obscura, while Burch’s character seems to have a darkness within that she may be trying to control and even use to her own advantage.
Riegel’s character has a jaded air about him, with Dala hinting at fractures within the group. Darling seems to have faith in the “sea gods,” which opens the door to countless possibilities with how she fits not only on the team but within the world of the Fairelands overall. Iyengar, of course, has no problem taking on the spookiness needed for this game, setting up another dark and complicated mystery for this new team to unravel. The first two chapters of Candela Obscura have included heavy themes and tons of both mystery and terror as the story unfolds, utilizing the world of the Fairelands created for the game.
The Candela Obscura series and game are set in a land ravaged by war and magick as new technology begins to spark. Candela Obscura is an organization tasked with protecting the Fairelands from these dangerous magical threats and those that would use them for their own means. The characters are forced to not only face the monsters that they try to stop but the demons within as well. Candela Obscura‘s new season is primed for another enthralling and horror-filled story, with Iyengar weaving what is sure to be a thrilling tale.
