Crisis On Infinite Earths Undid Robert Queen’s Biggest Arrow Mistake

Crisis on Infinite Earths drastically changed the storyline of Arrow season 7 and, in doing so, gave Emiko Queen a happy ending. This was perhaps the most drastic of the many changes Oliver Queen brought about as the Spectre, when he rewrote the history of his Earth as the Multiverse was reformed.

The product of an affair between businessman Robert Queen and a woman named Kazumi Adachi, Emiko wanted nothing more than to win her father’s approval and earn a place by his side. As a tween, she became a runner for the Bertinelli crime family, to make ends meet after Robert Queen abandoned Emiko and her mother financially. This brought Emiko into contact with a man named Dante, who trained her in the arts of combat and began grooming her to join the criminal cabal he secretly represented; The Ninth Circle. When Emiko’s best efforts to impress her father with her business savvy fell flat, Emiko sought revenge by saying nothing about Malcolm Merlyn’s plot to blow up Robert Queen’s yacht while he was at sea. She then devoted herself fully to the goals of The Ninth Circle and destroying the legacy of the Queen family.

The main storyline of Arrow season 7 saw Oliver Queen trying to forge some kind of peace between himself and his half-sister, even as she turned the full resources of the Ninth Circle against him. In the end, the organization turned upon Emiko when her vendetta exposed their existence to the world, but they also swore revenge on Oliver Queen and his family. This led to Oliver and his wife Felicity Smoak going into hiding so they could deliver their daughter, Mia, safely, and to the Star City 2040 timeline where Mia Smoak was raised in secret with the world never knowing Oliver Queen had a daughter. All of this was changed for the better by Crisis on Infinite Earths, where Oliver Queen rewrote the history of Earth-Prime to bring back everyone he had ever failed to save, including Emiko.

Crisis On Infinite Earths Undid Robert Queen’s Biggest Arrow Mistake

Emiko Queen’s resurrection was revealed in Arrow‘s series finale, “Fadeout,” when she showed up at Oliver Queen’s funeral. She was greeted by Thea and Moira Queen, who welcomed her into their family and assured her that she had a place among them. While this was only one of many miraculous things Oliver Queen arranged, it was probably the most typical. Oliver Queen became the Green Arrow to make amends for the sins of his father. In redeeming Emiko and bringing her into the family she longed to be part of, Oliver Queen undid what was probably his father’s most destructive mistake.

While the exact details of Emiko’s life in the new timeline were not spelled out in the series finale, it seems the most likely course of events is that Oliver arranged things so that Emiko never came into contact with Dante and the Ninth Circle in the first place. This would have had the effect of saving not only Emiko’s life but also eliminating any reason Felicity would have had to go into hiding with Mia, justifying the future as seen in the pilot episode of Green Arrow and the Canaries. Logically, this also means that Arrow season 7 in the new timeline would have been much less hectic and ARGUS’ efforts to track down the Ninth Circle much less urgent.
