After the highly successful first season of anthology series Creepshow, production is finally moving forward on season two. Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) is set to retain his role as head showrunner in this second season of the serial revival of the classic 1982 film of the same name, while other directors and horror icons join the cast and crew.
The original Creepshow was an anthology horror film collaboration between George Romero and Stephen King which combined the best of horror and camp to create a cult classic of the genre. The series revival, helmed by Greg Nicotero, featured six episodes with two horror stories per episode, bringing back the campy fun of the original while utilizing the horror anthology format to great success.
Shudder, the horror-exclusive streaming service producing Creepshow, announced the start of production for Creepshow season two on September 10 of 2020, taking place in Atlanta, Georgia. While Nicotero will be directing several of the six-episode season, Shudder has also announced several cast and crew members who are brand-new to the series but well-known to horror fans.
What We Know About Creepshow Season 2
Shudder has finally released details on Creepshow season two after the COVID-19 pandemic led to production delays back in March of 2020. Now, Shudder has finally shared the good news that production has begun on Creepshow season 2, with viewers expected to see the results exclusively on Shudder in 2021.
In addition to the 2021 release date, Shudder has also revealed the casting for several of the new episodes along with three episode writers and two of the directors who will be joining the team this season. Greg Nicotero has been confirmed to be directing four stories in this season, and has written one. The other director who has been revealed is Joe Lynch (Holliston, Mayhem), who released the news on his Instagram.
Frank Dietz (I Hate Kids) has been confirmed as a writer coming to season two for a story called “Pesticide,” and John Esposito (season 1’s “Night of the Paw”) will be returning this season for a story titled “Model Kid.” So far, actors that will be joining the Creepshow for season two include: Keith David (The Thing), Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser), Josh McDermitt (The Walking Dead), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), and Adam Pally (The Mindy Project).
Based on even this limited information, it’s certainly exciting to see all the familiar faces of horror coming on board for this season of Creepshow. Greg Nicotero is taking on a greater role in Creepshow season 2, with more directing credits and a writing credit this season, doubling the number of episodes he’ll be contributing to. Fans of season 1 and Nicotero’s work on The Walking Dead will definitely be looking forward to seeing what he might bring to the table this season, as he’s proven himself to be a maestro who can work in nearly every sub-genre due to his knowledge of horror.
Seeing Joe Lynch take on an episode of Creepshow will be exciting for fans of the independent horror scene, including his prior work with Adam Green on Holliston or films like Wrong Turn 2: Dead End and Mayhem. Additionally, both confirmed writers aside from Nicotero are relatively unknown, so it will be interesting to see what they’re able to deliver with new episodes this season. More actor, director, and writer announcements are sure to be released soon; with all the amazing reveals so far, it’s clear that fans everywhere can’t wait to see what else is in store for Creepshow season 2.
