Creed II Gets a New Poster; Trailer #2 Arrives Tomorrow

Creed II starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone gets a dramatic poster ahead of tomorrow’s new trailer release. The first trailer for the boxing movie sequel debuted back in June, and offered up a brief tease of Adonis Creed’s showdown with the son of Ivan Drago.

Released in 2015, Creed introduced Jordan as the son of original Rocky character Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), Rocky Balboa’s opponent-turned-friend. After Creed became a hit by grossing $109 million at the domestic box office, the sequel was quickly put into production, with Sylvester Stallone returning as Adonis’ mentor Rocky and Tessa Thompson as his love interest Bianca. Creed II will also bring back Dolph Lundgren as Ivan Drago, the Rocky IV character who killed Apollo in the ring before being vanquished by Rocky.

With a new trailer set to drop tomorrow, September 26th, 2018, Creed II star Michael B. Jordan has shared a dramatic new poster for the movie. In the image, an apparently anguished Adonis Creed kneels in the boxing ring, wearing the Creeds’ signature red-white-and-blue trunks. See the striking new poster below:

Though the movie features the return of Ivan Drago, and will no doubt climax with a showdown between Adonis and Viktor Drago, Jordan has indicated that Creed II is not just a revenge movie. The movie’s co-writer Cheo Hodari Coker, who penned the script along with Stallone, previously said the story deals with “sons haunted by their fathers.” The new poster image certainly seems to indicate that Adonis will go through some very emotional trials – not to mention the physical demands of battling Viktor Drago, who is played by real-life boxer Florian Munteanu.

If Creed II should prove to be as big a hit as the original Creed, chances are high that in typical Rocky fashion there will be another sequel. Indeed, Jordan has already said that he’s game to make multiple Creed sequels if the opportunity arises. It remains to be seen how long Stallone’s character Rocky will remain a part of the Creed series, given that Rocky nearly died of cancer in Creed and is getting a lot older. Of course, there are some who would argue you can’t continue the series without Sly.

After Creed received solid writing and direction from Ryan Coogler, directing duties for Creed II were handed off to the relative unknown Steven Caple Jr.. Of course, Coogler himself was a relative unknown before directing Creed, and he has gone on to direct the blockbuster Black Panther.
