Cortana’s Loyalty To Master Chief Is Questioned In Halo Season 2 Finale Clip [Exclusive]

Warning: Some SPOILERS lie ahead for Halo season 2!

As different groups race to control the ringworld, Cortana’s loyalties are under question in an exclusive Halo season 2 finale clip. The latest season of the adaptation of Bungie and 343 Industries’ video game franchise has largely adapted the events of the prequel novel The Fall of Reach, with humanity’s war against the Covenant failing and Master Chief hindered by government bureaucracy. Halo season 2 episode 7 ended with Chief regaining his iconic suit and racing to get to the titular array before Makee and the Arbiter or the rest of the Covenant in hopes of ending the war.

Ahead of its premiere, Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive Halo season 2 finale clip.

The video, as seen above, shows Makee nearing the Halo in her ship, all while under fire from an unseen force. The Covenant’s human member is warned by Cortana that the rate of fire will leave the ship destroyed before they can make it to the ringworld, with Makee in turn questioning where the AI’s loyalty actually lies, and pushing to learn whether Master Chief will join her on the array.

Will Makee Survive Halo Season 2?

Though her initial introduction carried some intrigue for her overall role in the show, Makee has proven a more divisive character throughout Halo‘s run. Between her forming a physical relationship with Master Chief, which was one of many deviations from the source games, to her surprise revival after her seeming death in the season 1 finale, audiences have found themselves more conflicted about her overall arc.

Heading into the Halo season 2 finale, the stakes are getting all the riskier for Makee. Her partnership with The Arbiter has exploded into a full-on secession from the Covenant and the Heirarchs, with the latter killing the various priests and others not willing to follow their cause to reach the titular ringworld and make their own destiny. With both the Covenant forces and UNSC hunting them down, as well as Master Chief himself, the duo have a lot of dangers to overcome in their ultimate goal.

Halo Season 3: Will It Happen? Everything We Know

The blockbuster adaptation of Halo on Paramount+ hasn’t been renewed for a third season yet, but its overwhelming popularity is a good sign.

With Halo season 2 seeing a change in creative oversight as David Weiner took over the showrunner position, a number of changes have been made to the overall tone and pacing, resulting in more action and darker evolution of various arcs. Given Makee has also become not as important to Chief’s story as in season 1, this change could see the latter ultimately kill the former in the hopes of taking the Halo for humanity. Additionally, with the Arbiter and Chief being key allies in later games, her death could set up this dynamic for future seasons of the show.

The Halo season 2 finale premieres on Paramount+ on Thursday.

A live-action adaptation of the video game franchise of the same name, Halo follows Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 (Pablo Schrieber) as he fights his part in a war between humanity’s United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and the Covenant, an alliance of multiple hostile races of aliens intent on destroying the human race. The Master Chief is supported by Cortana (Jen Taylor) – an AI construct based on the personality of Dr. Catherine Halsey, who created the Spartan supersoldier program – implanted in his brain.
