Controversial Isekai Will Return On Crunchyroll For A Fourth Season

Controversial Isekai Will Return On Crunchyroll For A Fourth Season

The hit isekai anime The Rising of the Shield Hero has been officially renewed for a fourth season. Ever since its debut, The Rising of the Shield Hero, despite the excellent animation and direction of season 1, has been very controversial for its handling of slavery and other mature themes, and for a very underwhelming season 2.

However, season 3 seemed to bring The Rising of the Shield Hero back to its roots, which makes the official announcement of a fourth season even more exciting for fans of the series. Kadokawa, the company that publishes the light novels and manga, recently announced that The Rising of the Shield Hero has been renewed for a fourth season, with Crunchyroll confirmed to still be streaming the anime.

It’s easy enough to figure out what season 4 will cover based on the pacing of the previous seasons of The Rising of the Shield Hero, and with any luck, season 4 will maintain the uptick in quality that season 3 benefited so much from.

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 4 Will Focus On Raphtalia

The cast of volume 13

Based on when season 3 ended, The Rising of the Shield Hero season 4’s story will cover Naofumi and his friends settling the issue of Raphtalia’s accidental bid for the throne of Q’ten Lo and the long-awaited battle against the Phoenix. All of that covers the next three volumes of the light novels following where season 3 ended, so if season 4 is of the same length as seasons 2 and 3, that would be the most logical place for things to end.

If The Rising of the Shield Hero season 4 is over 20 episodes like season 1 was, however, then that’s a different story, entirely. With that sort of length, season 4 could go into volume #16 and beyond, and doing so would introduce the Army of the Waves, the major villains of the later parts of the story, with Tact, in particular, becoming one of Naofumi’s worst enemies. Naturally, further information about season 4’s runtime has yet to be given, but whatever its length ends up being, there are plenty of good stories for it to cover and end on.

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 4 Is Actually Exciting (Thanks To Season 3)

Rising of the Shield Hero season 3

While the has fallen off in popularity, there’s plenty of reason to be excited about season 4 thanks to season 3. Not only did The Rising of the Shield Hero season 3 greatly flesh out the cast beyond Naofumi and Raphtalia and provide more interesting conflict, but the animation and music were both greatly improved and even surpassed season 1 on occasion. If The Rising of the Shield Hero can maintain that level of quality for season 4, and perhaps address its most controversial themes, then the anime can go back to the popularity it experienced after its debut.
