The Darkchylde is bringing her darkest style to the X-Men’s 2022 Hellfire Gala event, as Colossus’s sister Magik gets a brand new costume fitting her demonic side. In stunning new Marvel Comics art from Russell Dauterman, The Sorcerer Supreme of Limbo fully embraces her dark roots, as she gets a Darkchylde pantsuit that makes it seem like she’ll forget to be a hero for the night.
Magik is the sister of the X-Men’s Colossus, although she had a much different upbringing than her powerful brother. Illyana Rasputin was kidnapped by Belasco, working for dark and dangerous entities, and was forced to grow up inside Limbo, the demonic magical dimension where she’d later become its Sorcerer Supreme. After breaking free from Limbo, Magik joined the X-Men team, the New Mutants, and used her powers, including dimensional teleportation, magic, and her powerful Soulsword, to become a valued member. However, her time in Limbo led to her Darkchylde persona also appearing, as she transforms into a horned-demonic creature. Now, artists Russell Dauterman and Matt Wilson are reimagining her dark side as a new costume for the 2022 Hellfire Gala.
On his Twitter account, Russell Dauterman shared his new cover alongside colorist Matt Wilson for New Mutants #27, which features Magik’s dark new Hellfire Gala costume that he designed. The look embraces Colossus’s sister’s demonic Darkchylde persona, featuring large horns, a rigged and sharp-edged bodysuit, spikes on her left shoulder, and an X cutout on her right arm to signify her connection to the X-Men. Additionally, the look features a large, long tail and black makeup on her face, making the hero appear even more devilish. Dauterman told Marvel.com that he “wanted to play with Illyana’s demon imagery — with a Mugler, Gaga, McQueen twist.” Mission accomplished.
The Darkchylde Pantsuit looks great on Magik and does a fantastic job referencing her dark past and still-present connection to Limbo for the costume. With her Soulsword in hand, Colossus’s sister might scare some of her fellow attendees at the X-Men’s 2022 Hellfire Gala, but she will be doing so in style.
Russell Dauterman and Matt Wilson have created a new costume for Magik that embraces the hero’s demonic side while offering up a high-fashion look that fits the theme of the event. Colossus’s sister is among the best-dressed at the event and should turn heads at the X-Men’s 2022 Hellfire Gala event with her new costume.
