COD Zombies Is Permabanning PC Players For Being Good At the Game

A rogue glitch in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies game mode is essentially punishing PC players for being good at the game. This is the second major bug encountered in the mode in a week, as another glitch was pulling players into the escort Rover.

However, unlike the Rover glitch, this one is far more harmful to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community and, more alarmingly, seems to be much more common. Zombies is one of the most beloved Call of Duty modes, which has made this new account-ruining glitch all the more frustrating for dedicated PC players.

On the Reddit’s r/CODZombies community, user Korlesa posted an extensive collection of posts showing players getting permabanned without warning. According to Korlesa, they and many others were first affected by this issue on April 2 after an update, which is targeting PC players. PC players who pass round 50 in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode randomly get hit with an error screen which reads, “An error occurred: Sail 630 Nuclear Bug.” Following this screen, players affected report being unable to play any modes, neither online or off.

After dozens of similar reports, Treyarch community manager Josh Torres, AKA FoxhoundFPS, gave an official response to the post, saying, “I am unable to assist with this issue. All infractions undergo a thorough review process by the security team before enforcement.” This was not the response these players wanted to hear, and his response was downvoted heavily. At the time of writing, it is the only official comment either Treyarch or Activision have given about the Sail 630 Nuclear error message.

In fairness, as community manager, there is likely not much Torres can do to fix the issue other than alert the development team. However, giving a generic response to an issue that’s essentially ending players’ entire Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War experiences was never likely going to go over well. Between this baffling glitch and the mishandling of the R1 Shadowhunter crossbow, the Call of Duty community hasn’t had a lot to be happy about lately.

The Call of Duty franchise has always had a history with hackers and handing out bans to said hackers, so the Sail 630 Nuclear bug is likely somehow related to the game automatically misinterpreting Zombies players’ legitimate play as rule-breaking. With so many people of a specific group of players all reporting the same issue, though, it’s clear that this is a glitch and not some massive, coordinated exploit. A more flexible approach in at least responding to these claims would be more helpful to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community, but players so far haven’t gotten that.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
