COD: Warzone Removes ALL Vehicles To Fix Server-Crashing Glitch

Infinity Ward, the developers of Call of Duty: Warzone have issued a patch that removes all vehicles from the game’s huge map after a game-breaking glitch was discovered. For those unfamiliar, Call of Duty: Warzone is the battle royale add-on to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and will persist into this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War. Over the course of six seasons and counting, this new breed of Call of Duty has featured a constantly updating map with new weapons and vehicles in both the traditional high-player count battle royale mode and the more deathmatch-oriented Plunder.

Call of Duty: Warzone has been massively popular, but it also hasn’t been without its fair share of technical glitches. In May of this year, the developers had to take the game’s helicopters off the map, as they could fly players to an out of bounds area underneath the map and let them cause undue havoc. Another bug left players infinitely respawning in the endgame, leading to an endless dual between invincible soldiers. As awesome as that might be to see on a movie screen, it’s less than ideal in a competitive shooter.

The latest and most heinous glitch lets drivers navigate to another out of bounds area on the map. However, instead of giving them a unique perspective on the action, it caused a glitch that crashes servers, sending an entire room of players to the main menu. Not only is this rather annoying to deal with, it’s not even particularly useful for those taking advantage, as it does nothing but waste player’s time. In response, Infinity Ward released a playlist update to remove vehicles from both battle royale and Plunder modes until a fix can be created.

Call of Duty: Warzone is a battle royale, and that genre dictates a certain rather large map size that would benefit vehicles. This makes the new patch a painful one even if it is also rather necessary to avoid trollish players taking advantage of the glitch. As of now, anyone diving into Verdansk will have to hoof it the whole game, making for a very different kind of experience than what was initially designed. While some players responding to Infinity Ward’s tweet see this as a nice change of pace, the patch has been in place for 16 hours with no change in sight as of yet.

Since the glitch first popped up late on a weekend night, it’s understandable that Infinity Ward isn’t able to fix the latest Call of Duty: Warzone patch with great speed. A glitch with such wide-reaching effects needs to be analyzed for a good while in any game as big as this. Still, with Warzone‘s controversial history so far, it will be interesting to see if anything changes as things shift from Modern Warfare to Cold War with the new Call of Duty release. Until then, it’s best to strap on some running shoes.
