Clubhouse Payments: How To Tip Another User

Clubhouse Payments: How To Tip Another User

Clubhouse now allows users to send payments to each offer. The audio-only chat app has proven popular with users over the past year, although it still remains somewhat limited on device support. With Clubhouse Payments, the service offers creators on the platform a way to monetize their content and other users to reward them for their efforts.

Clubhouse operates differently to most other apps and services, although this is becoming less true every day. Since Clubhouse launched, a number of popular social media and networking apps have looked to release their own take on the same feature. Twitter was one of the first with its Spaces, but Instagram, LinkedIn, and even Discord are all working on their own solutions. As the race to be the best voice-chat service unfolds, Clubhouse continues to work on dealing with the many issues that often come with being a new service.

Actually sending a Clubhouse payment to someone is surprisingly easy to do. Clubhouse users will first need to register a credit or debit card with the service. This is a one-time procedure, however, as the card will be kept on file for all future payments. With a payment method set up, the user who wants to tip another will need to tap on the other user’s profile icon and then on the “Send Money” button. Following which, it is just a matter of entering the amount to be sent and confirming the payment. It is worth keeping in mind that Clubhouse charges “a small card processing fee” so the amount sent won’t be the final amount that’s charged to the user’s credit or debit card, although users can see the cost of the processing fee before completing the transaction.

Why Clubhouse Now Accepts Payments

Put simply, Clubhouse is a creator platform. While it might be viewed by many as a social networking service, its appeal is largely dependent on users creating rooms that other users want to join. With such an emphasis on content creation, Clubhouse has been looking at ways for users to benefit from their efforts, with Payments the first to properly launch. However, it won’t be the last monetization measure the platform launches in the coming months. Clubhouse also previously confirmed the launch of Creator First, an accelerator program designed to help creators produce shows and make money from the platform.

For reference, there are some limitations to the new Clubhouse Payments feature. The first is users can’t simply send money to just anyone. Instead, the creator or user will need to have enabled payment support on their account. The ability to receive payments over Clubhouse is currently something that’s rolling out in stages, much like the service’s approach to invites. In addition, and although more of an extension of a larger limitation, Clubhouse Payments are currently only available on iOS.
