Chucky Stars Discuss Devon & Jake’s Season 3 Dynamic And Their Work With Legendary John Waters

Chucky season 3 has introduced a new hurdle for the murderous doll that seems impossible for him to beat: old age. Lexy, Devon, and Jake continue to try and either destroy Chucky or prove that he is alive, but are thwarted once more before the bloody massacre at the White House Halloween party. Chucky attempted to complete a ritual to escape his fate during the Halloween party, killing thirteen people in his quest to stay alive, but his plans failed. Meanwhile, Tiffany began to enact her plans to escape, using her voodoo tools to gain control over those around her.

Chucky continues to bring a blood-filled, gory good time to the White House as the doll tries to escape the most difficult enemy to defeat: time. While the series features truly horrific gore in each episode, Chucky continues to infuse humanity into the story not just through the heroes who try to stop the titular killer, but Chucky’s own fear of mortality as well. As Chucky reflects the worst side of humanity through selfishness and cruelty, Lexy, Devon, and Jake show the opposite, with love, heroism, and protectiveness driving their choices.

Chucky Season 4: Will It Happen? Everything We Know

Chucky season 4 hasn’t yet been confirmed by SyFy, but the scope of the current episodes already set it up to be one of the most eventful yet.

Screen Rant interviewed stars Zackary Arthur, Alyvia Alyn Lind, and Björgvin Arnarson about the second half of Chucky season 3. Arthur and Arnarson discussed the growth of the relationship between Devon and Jake, while Lind explained the struggle Lexy faces with wanting to kill Chucky, but needing information from him. The trio also shared why Colonel Chucky stands out as a favorite amongst the bunch.

Chucky May Be Vulnerable, Zackary Arthur Warns That “He Never Really Does Go Away”

Jake and Devon have been dancing around one another for years. However, fans were overjoyed when they finally took their relationship to the next level in the third season of Chucky. Arnarson and Arthur discussed their excitement at seeing these two finally together and exploring their relationship.

Björgvin Arnarson: I think it’s at its peak right now. I think especially after that, I think we’re really just excited to be together again and also what happens later, it’s great. It’s a great kind of device because things happen that challenge us again. So I think having that big moment that really exciting stuff happens and then bring it back to the situation at hand. Yeah, I think once again is another good use to have the audience be all stressed out.

Zackary Arthur: Oh, I think it’s a great contrast from season two because the characters were at odds and they didn’t really get to spend as much time together as they should have. But in season three, we do get to see them get closer and explore the relationship, which is, we finally get to see these characters be happy.

Chucky is more vulnerable than ever before in the third season as old age begins to catch up with him even as he continues to kill and hunt for power. While the characters see this as an opportunity to finally rid themselves of the demonic, murderous doll, Arthur is quick to temper hopes of finally stopping Chucky.

Zackary Arthur: The thing about Chucky is that he never really does go away, and that’s great for having season four, season five, and season six, but I think that the characters do know that there’s something different about this, that there’s something that could be a game changer as far as this. The characters say this every time. I think the characters are excited but still cautious about what the future entails.

While Chucky’s newfound vulnerability may seem like an opportunity for the young heroes, for Lexy, it threatens her ability to find her missing sister, Caroline. Lexy is forced to face the duality of her desire to finally see Chucky dead after all he took from her and her need to get information from him, which gives him the upper hand.

Alyvia Lind: Yeah, I think that Lexy’s eyes are very set on what she needs to get done, and it’s kind of a weird conflicting emotion for her because she’s never been a trying to save Chucky. She’s always been trying to kill Chucky, so now she’s like wants him dead, of course, but she needs to get information out of him first. So this is the first time that she’s actually needing him alive, and it’s much easier just to have to kill somebody.

But just needing your arch nemesis and somebody who’s killed your entire family and everybody you’re loved alive now is very hard to comprehend. And I think that she just really, really wants to find her sister and she feels responsible for everything that’s happened to her and she’s carrying the weight of that. And I think that she just really needs to find her and save her and kind of become that parental figure for her that she feels like she doesn’t have anymore. So yeah, her eye is very set on the prize and she’s not stopping at anything before she finds her.

Chucky follows a long legacy of television series that have brought the Oval Office to the small screen with incredible detail. The cast praised the crew’s ability to bring the White House to life on set and pointed out the countless photos of co-star Deven Sawa with Obama and the Pope.

Björgvin Arnarson: Yeah, I think it was super cool, honestly, because when I read the script I was like, “How are they going to do this? Are we going to go somewhere and find a location that’s similar?” But no, we straight up built that place. Literally the Oval Office is built, there’s a bunch of hallways. It’s crazy.

I think there’s only one part that was on location somewhere, but most of it was just built on set and they did such a great job making it look like that, the real deal. And that’s funny because there’s a bunch of little photographs of the president and they photoshopped him handshaking with Obama. It’s so funny. It’s hilarious.

Zackary Arthur: Oh my God. I think knowing Devon and seeing those pictures is just so funny.

Alyvia Lind: There’s a photo of him with the Pope. They photoshopped a picture of him with the Pope. So good. I hope Devon got to keep those. Devon should put them around his house and just randomly when people come over and be like, “Oh yeah, that’s real.”

Over the course of the series, there have been many iterations of Chucky. Lind and Arnarson explained why Colonel Chucky stood out from the others due to his look and how violent he was in wiping out the other Chuckies.

Björgvin Arnarson: Yeah, I like Colonel Chucky. He’s super evil Rick. He killed all the other Chuckies. That was awesome.

Alyvia Lind: Colonel Chucky was my fave. I love his ear necklace. That was fashion. That was so fashion.

Björgvin Arnarson: And it was cool seeing that scene of the whole massacre and Devon and Lexy are walking through the woods and just knowing that Colonel Chucky did all that. That guy, he’s pretty nuts.

John Waters joined the cast this season as Wendell Wilkins, the creator of the Good Guy Dolls. Arthur praised the legendary Waters and his portrayal of Wilkins. He explained what Waters brought to the role.

Zackary Arthur: It’s not a spoiler that we have John Waters, the amazing John Waters, playing the creator. Obviously, he’s a legend, and he brings so much comedy to the character, but so much drama to the character, so much sass to the character. It was amazing working with him.
