Chucky Season 3 Part 2 Release Gets Update From Creator Amid Actors Strike

The article contains major spoilers for Chucky season 3.

Chucky season 3, part 2 gets an update from franchise creator Don Mancini. The infamous evil doll finds himself in and around the White House for the latest installment of the horror-comedy, continuing to focus on Chucky’s deadly feud with Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), and Lexi (Alyvia Alyn Lind). But this time around, the redheaded menace is in a uniquely vulnerable position as the show’s third installment signed off for its midseason finale.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Mancini gave an update on when the remaining four episodes of Chucky season 3 will return. The creator of the Child’s Play franchise explained why the show’s latest outing was split into two separate parts. He also spoke of how the Halloween episode, “Dressed to Kill”, lent itself to be a good cliffhanger and mentioned the progress of Chucky season 3, part 2. Read his quote below:

“It’s a necessary experiment born of the strike, yes. We were shooting right up until the point SAG-AFTRA shut everything down. Knowing that it was coming, which really, we didn’t know for sure until I think it was just like 10 days before when it was really looking like it was going that way. Universal basically told us, ‘Look, Chucky has such a presence for NBC this fall because of the mazes at the parks,’ and all that. So they really wanted something to air during Halloween season. So once we saw that the strike was coming, we sort of like put all of our resources and time into finishing the first four. We really have almost finished five and six as well. But we like literally just like a day left to finish five and six. And then a few more weeks to do seven and eight. But we do have pieces of seven and eight already shot as well.”

“So, when (the strike) happened, Universal said ‘Okay, well, this is what we can do.’ And fortuitously enough, the end of episode 4 really did lend itself (to a hiatus), and that was just coincidence, because that was always what was going to happen at the end of episode 4. And we knew that since that was the Halloween episode, as we do every year, we try to make the Halloween episode a little bit special. So it functions as a good cliffhanger because no one has ever seen Chucky in this with this particular dilemma before.”

What To Expect From Chucky Season 3, Part 2

Chucky Season 3 Part 2 Release Gets Update From Creator Amid Actors Strike

Chucky season 3 makes its objective clear its purpose in the third episode, “Jennifer’s Body,” which mostly occurred in the past. It’s revealed that the titular doll has been abandoned by the dark magic he’s relied on to stay alive because of the exorcism he experiences in Chucky season 3. That means he’s slowly dying. After visiting a hospital that specializes in the supernatural, Chucky is told there’s a possible way out of his predicament.

However, it would take “an evil of a magnitude even you can’t comprehend.” In practice, the villain has to commit murder, but it can’t be just any random kill. With Lexy’s younger sister Caroline (Carina London Battrick) as his companion, the doll learns that he has to sacrifice six people. He has to do so while located in an exceptionally evil location. This would allow him to regain the embrace of dark magic and continue living. After a trip to Amityville proves not evil enough, Chucky chooses the White House as his next location.

The series may focus on the villain’s efforts to stay alive and his showdown with Jake, Devon, and Lexy. But as Mancini also mentioned, Chucky is vulnerable. He’s aging, and he feels out of step with pop culture in a world where the likes of M3GAN and Annabelle are vying for that evil doll throne, unleashing a new spin on a long-running franchise.
